Title: metal roof cost?
Post by: rocking23nf on September 07, 2011, 02:19:56 PM
I know this will vary alot by location, but how much is a rough estimate for a metal roof on a 24x24 A frame, its probably 20 feet to the peak?

roofers around here make at least 30 bucks an hour.

Just parts or labor too?

Here typical barn steel is around 80 cents/square foot.

Around here painted roofing costs around $1 per square foot.  Add in $2 a foot for a ridge.   My recollection was that you already have a roof on your A frame?  If it was one layer of asphalt shingles you may be able to roof right over top of them without removal and having to refelt and flash.  As long as there are no dormers, a roofing crew may be able to get it done in a day.

I would guess $1500 for materials.  Add in another 1-2k for labor.  IIRC you are in the Nevada area?  Construction labor should be really cheap around there.

I can't be give you a great estimate on how much it would cost to have done.  I read such horrible reviews of roofers in my area, I would do it myself.

My 32 x 24 was about $2500 just a few weeks ago (Alaska prices... slightly inflated). Only materials. Installation was a piece of cake though. Just predrill the holes so all your screws go in a straight line...

I spent &700 in materials for 3tab architecutral asphault shingle on a gambrel roofed 14X20. 17 bundles. I also priced coated metal roofing at Lowes and was alittle cheaper, BUT the trim out on a metal roof was higher than asphault. AND, I have done shingles before not metal. If I had done a A frame I would have gone metal and DIY'd it too. You cannot beat the look and durabilty IMO.

I just spent $2100 for my steel.  24 x 40', each sheet was 17' long.  That included the drip edge, gable end covers and vented ridge cap.  Putting it up is not that difficult as long as the roof pitch isnt too steep.  Definately recommend predrilling holes, makes for a much cleaner look and easier install.
