I recently needed to install some gutters, eves trough to some folks. One of the problems was how to get up there at roof height and install the gutter. Leaning the ladder against the eve doesn't work as the ladder is in the way. Leaning the ladder against the wall wouldn't work with a 2 foot plus overhang. Compounding the problem was the uneven ground at that wall; scafolding would have been a bear to set up. Plus I don't own any.
I discovered a ladder accessory.

Not the greatest photo.
It is called Ladder-Max. Their website... http://stores.homestead.com/LadderMaxLLC/StoreFront.bok (http://stores.homestead.com/LadderMaxLLC/StoreFront.bok)
It attaches and detaches with ease. Seems well thought out and it did work!

We had used a similar item . . . We ended up duct-taping some foam rubber to the ends so they wouldn't damage the shingles . . .
/.
I need one of those.
Great idea!
I have a couple of delayed projects that this will help me do safely now [cool]
I meant to mention to be sure to check out their other model that has interchangable legs for different distances and legs that are meant for working on a corner. d*
[cool] Very tidy solution to a common problem.
Ever see/use the "Little Giant" ladder system? They are heavy ( one of their good points actually) so they do provide a good solid feel. They can be easily arranged to handle stairs, uneven ground, etc. They aren't cheap but, I do believe you could never wear one out.
