Title: Plywood floor- glue & screw or nails only
Post by: Bretttf on May 11, 2011, 03:08:11 AM
Title says it all really.
I'm putting an 18mm or 3/4" plywood floor on my joists.
Is it best to glue and screw or just nail in place?
Any comments or problems with either please?
Thanks
Brett

Generally most contractors will glue and nail.  The nails should be "ring shank" though.  Some have used screws but it is time consuming and for a contractor time is money.   Screwing is probably the best approach to prevent squeaks later.  In addition pick the right adhesive for the sheeting.  Advantex recommends a polyurethane based glue rather that regular construction adhesive.

Thanks for that.
Would an exterior water proof PVA glue be ok?
I can get loads of that free!
