I ran across a yard/estate sale today and found a few things I wanted.
I bought 10 cast iron skillets (Nice ones) ranging from 8" to 14", for $3.00 each.
2 Pressure cookers (National). One needs the blow out button and both need gaskets but both have all the racks and accessory stands for the inside. My old canner was on it's last legs. It was a thin stainless one and had gotten bent and dented over the years and didn't have a gauge. The Canners were $6.00 each.
A box of cast ladles, strainers, jar handlers, Etc. for $3.00 for the box.
All going to the farm.

Good find Peter. I try to find the older cast at estate sales but they usually bring more for one than all that you paid for. Some people have all the luck.
I think the reason is because this was close to the City John.
For some reason, city people won't buy old pots and pans. Usually they wind up as flower pots or scrap iron. This appeared to be a combined 10 or so person estate sale. They even had an old and in pretty good shape, ice chest. The old type that you got ice deliveries for. Wanted $85.00 for it and all I could see it needed was new gaskets on the doors.
I passed since there isn't a handy Ice service anymore. ;D

Definitely a good price! I occasionally find them for $5.00 but not often. I have more than I can use but I still buy them when I find them. Guess the kids will have some when I'm gone or some to get rid of. ;D
Peter I have been slowly accquiring pieces to use in the cabin. They are about the only thing that will hold up on the wood cookstove without melting down. The newer cast ar not worth anything but to plant flowers in.

Me too John. Since I either have to use wood or propane and I'm trying to not use the propane stove, I am getting the older, heavy duty cast. I think this fills out my skillet needs and I have three Dutch Ovens, one stew pot, a griddle which is very handy and now a couple of cast ladles, I'm close to having what I need.
I'm interested in how the National Pressure cooker does on a wood stove. My Grandmother used one on hers but I was too young to pay much attention. One of the PC's wil stay in the burbs.
I still want to find a Calderon for outside. I can get new ones at AG Supply but as you said, pretty shoddy and expensive.
