That plastic Mattel toy will never catch on...

Looks like a training rifle. Just wonder how many rounds had been shot in it over the years.

Hard to say. The bore is in excellent condition. Probably got taken to the range once a year to qualify and that's about it. It's a 1969-1971 "C MP C" marked barrel with a chrome-lined chamber and non-chrome-lined bore. M16A1 bores weren't chromed until December 1971.
I had an old rifle that shot a big round.
When I shot at a creature it fell on the ground.
I bought a new rifle all shiny and black.
when I shot at a creature it ran like a cat.
It was lucky for me it held many rounds.
Cause it took em all, to make it fall on the ground.

Interesting to see some of the differences between V1 and V2
Nice.
I live on 30 acres and am an avid shooter too.
I spent 20 years in the army and just retired a year ago or so.
Spent lots of time with those rifles.
This is representative of the type of carbine that would have been use in the early 1990s during the US mission in Somalia. It was one of the first models to adopt what we now know as the "M4" profile barrel, but retained the fixed carry handle. Military nomenclature would be M16A2 carbine, while Colt called her the Model 727. The sight is an Aimpoint 5000 (introduced 1991, discontinued 1998) on an ARMS #2 mount.

Does the scope mount allow use of the iron sights?
Yes, it has a hollow channel through its length.
