Title: Building gambrel trusses with an eve
Post by: Dallas2build on January 07, 2011, 10:58:41 AM
Here is the situation.  In town where I live I have a small back yard with a small 10' x 16' storage shed.  It has a very low pitched roof on it allowing for practically zero storage overhead.  The side walls are 2x4 and 7' tall.  I have all the extra 2x4's and lumber I need for free so I plan to tear the roof off and replace it with a gambrel style roof.  This will allow me to use the top for storage and the main floor for a small work area.

The thing is I would like to add an eve to it instead of the standard no eve design.  Has anyone done this before and have any suggestions?  Does anyone have any suggestions in general?

Extend the floor joists over the walls and use them to launch the overhang from. It was common to lay a board flatways on top of the cantilevered joists, a raising plate. This scaled to ~ 4'9" headroom in this sketch.

Waited a couple days to ask, as I don't want to hijack Dallas2build thread. But I got to ask. I had plans from mother earth news years ago for a 2 story prefab cabin, I believe they called it a modified a frame. Too big for what I want, and too tall.
Always wondered if you could do a one story or better yet a one and a half story so you could have a loft for sleeping or storage. Any one have plans or pics, or have done it? Thanks for any info.

I remember way - way back may be twenty years or so Mother Earth News had the plans for a prefab sort of sip built cabin.  Does any one have that as well?
