Title: Hip corners - To vent or not to vent
Post by: Alan Gage on July 26, 2011, 10:26:14 PM
Installed vent chutes in my house the other day but didn't do anything with the corners yet. It's a hip roof (4:12 pitch) and the first 2 bays on each side of the corners aren't long enough or deep enough for full length vent chutes. Wondering if I should install less insulation in the corners to allow for a vent space above or just put some screen over the 2" gap along the outside wall that's there now and fill them full of insulation.

I'm leaning towards full depth insulation in the corners and not worrying about the venting as it's a small space in the corners, they'll still be open to the soffits, and none of the corners are above a bathroom. Any thoughts to the contrary?

A picture to hopefully show what I'm talking about:

The vent chutes are already installed in the other bays in the picture.

Thanks,
