Thanks Redoverfarm, I would like that recipe if at all possible.

Don has written several post on the subject.  I don't have the time now to go through them but if you search the forum for "Borate" by "Don_P" there are several that come up.  Might have to review them to see what is relevent.

The siding looks great!  I'm sure you are very pleased it.  All the windows will be nice for your viewing enjoyment  :)

Thanks oifmarine,
this siding has taken a lot longer than I thought it would.

finished siding the back of the cabin and framed the bathroom for the pocket door.
if anyone want to install one of these, I would like to suggest buying a better quality one than sold at HD.

Yep I think "Johnson" is somewhat the leader in pocket door hardware.

Don_P

Johnson really let me down on this job. Hopefully their ears are burning. I sized everything for their better units that used to be readily available here. When I went to order the only thing available was their cheap knock down units. I had the building supply give them a call, they would only ship them in quantities of 40 units  ???. I took 7 of their lower quality because I was over a barrel but Mr Johnson, if you're listening, that was the last door you'll sell me unless you mend your ways!

We love your cabin Astidham, I agree with Redoverfarm, I think a nice natural colored stain would look fantastic on it.  Great work!!

Danfish

Sorry to hear Johnson Hardware left you in the cold.  I have had nothing but excellent service, but then I only order on-line direct from Johnson.  They ship any quantity I want from one to a hundred.  Don't understand your issue with the "breakdown" package that comes with steel reinforced studs?  You can get their standard roller assembly or ball bearing assembly for 200 pound plus doors.  By far the best pocket and bifold door hardware on the market.  Pricing is about the same as that poor quality box store stuff!

astidham

got the loft decked, a closet and a pantry framed this weekend! and also somehow managed to find the time to shoot myself in the arm with a stick nailer!!
lucky i was using slick nails, normally I use ring shanks.

Ouch!
welcome to the club of "I done shot myself". That's gonna be sore tomorrow.
I did it once in mid argument with my wife. The only sympathy was "Don't bleed on the logs"  :D

Hope the arm heals quickly. Luckily I've avoided that club so far!

Nice progress. I see your kids use the construction site as a playground just like mine do!

archimedes

Ouch!

I nailed two fingers together on my left hand once.  Nail went in one side of the index finger,  out the other side, and then went in the middle finger.  Fun times.

Still love my nail gun though.

Place looks great.
Give me a place to stand and a lever long enough,  and I will move the world.

Just curious, how much was your siding per lf?

Wow, you're really moving along!  Great work Astidham :)

astidham

had a back hoe come in a dig trenches for electric Friday.
my friend Thai and I ran 2" conduit to the shop and to the cabin, hung breaker boxes in both, and pulled 4-O triplex ~150' to the cabin and ~ 150' to the shop! no more generator!

installed the spiral stairs today, and decked the top.
I will have to to figure out a way to trim out the cantilevered part of the landing.
