I built a small shop building using their info.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

Thanks for the input on trusses.

But the ones that Mark made are kind of a cross between trusses and rafters, and I can see that they don't have birdsmouths.

The bottom chord of a typical truss, being horizontal, of course don't have or need a birdsmouth.

But do scissor trusses need birdsmouths, since the bottom chord is not horizontal?

Seems as though any truss or rafter will need a birdsmouth.

Ay?

#1: I've never seen a professionally manf. truss with a true birds mouth.  They have a flat spot / level place that generally is made to fit on the top plate so it makes a "point/ joint / corner " for the wall /  ceiling break .

You may have to look at  a couple of different types of   huricane clips , such as H-1 or H 2.5's or a combo of the two where interior walls get in the way of a standard H-1 clip.

#2: generally yes , always no , so it DEPENDS! ;D

#3: Ay?    AH yes  hmm  hmm
When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .
