Title: Balcony in 1 1/2 20x30 Loft
Post by: captdave on August 24, 2007, 11:27:29 AM
Hi everyone.
Great site I will be starting to build in upstate NY on a lakefront lot in early 2008 and I like the 20x30 1 1/2 design. My questions is on the gable end of the loft if there is enough head room to put an exterior   loft door to an outdoor balcony under the overhang. What length 2x6 studs (10' 12' ?) would I have to use to get enough head room? I saw plans in a 24' wide that show a nice balcony, however I am trying to stay with the 20 wide design.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't think you will have any problem at all with a 12/12 pitch.  I didn't do the math but a 14 wide with an attic and no extended walls is just about 6 feet at the peak.

Many have posted that they like the longer studs to have a bit more room upstairs.

Welcome to the forum. :)
