Today is my last day at work (no more suits) Next week is the drive out to Missouri and the build begins!  This forum has provided a great sounding board and lots of suggestions/ideas!  With all the friends and family asking to be kept up on the build and the transition to "my turn" at living, I promised them I'd post videos of the progress.  I'll try and post them here too so those good ideas can keep flowing!  In case I miss one I'll post the link here, there are already two videos posted showing the plans or as some have put it "something to compare the finished product to".

Congratulations on no more suits.

When will you break ground on the project? I also subscribed to your channel to see the progress.

Thanks! I can't tell you how the thought of no more ties makes me feel! The foundation but arrives the week of 8 April and I've asked that he be done by the end of April - weather permitting. Excited to get started and share the journey. Thanks for subscribing!

I actually know the feeling of no more NOOSE, I mean necktie. I did some of that in my previous life.

Since you mentioned a couple of weeks time frame for the foundation I am assuming its gonna be a block crawl space? I like those since you can get to everything under the house.

/cheers, awaiting your progress vids.

It's going to be poured concrete walls, my foundation guy seem allergic to block.  ;D same concept though 24 in above grade plenty of room to crawl under if I HAVE to.

That will be nice to have a solid foundation.  I can add my voice to the chorus of people who wish that they had done that.

retiredmarine

I've got a few people here to thank for the full foundation idea. I got talked out of pillars some time ago and I'm glad.

OK, getting there is some of the battle, right?  I'm packed up and headed to MO!  Road trip ahead and then the next page of "To Do's" starts.  There is an end isn't there?  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQRKBjPZkMNLdccme7CxIWA?view_as=subscriber

Left you a comment on your youtubes, I also downsized all my crap when I moved but I fit it into a honda civic lol.

retiredmarine

You win!!  I will say some of the stuff I moved was for the build.  I purchased all my electric, PEX plumbing, fixtures, wood stove, ceiling fans and lights. Well that's my excuse anyway.

retiredmarine

First week down.  Electric service is in, build site and adjacent areas cleared, pad preped for shipping container (storage) and tiny house (12X12 storage shed delivered.  Foundation is next.

Week Two. Rain made the site unable to get the well truck, shipping container, or the form truck in.  Still made a bit of progress and got the temporary "household set up. Also threw in a orientation of the property.

How very exciting! Looking foward to following your progress.

retiredmarine

Thanks!  Amazing how the weather effects the beginning so much!

Week 3! Time flies!  The weather is slowing me down, I still have several large trucks that need to get into the property not to mention the excavator to dig the foundation and concrete trucks to pour it. That means solid, dry ground.  Rain doesn't help.  Oh well I've got nothing but time. I did get the well drilled before last weeks rain. I'm calling that a success!!

Grats on coming along I know how it feels to wait to get going.

Btw funny thing is I am doing the same thing on my channel. Just finished footers and got started on the block foundation.

About to head to youtube and leave you a like and comment.

I'm enjoying watching your videos!  Look forward to following your progress, do you plan to do any of the construction yourself or are you hiring most things out?  I see the weather over the next two weeks looks really wet especially in the midwest.  Hope it doesn't impede progress too much.

Take care,
Jason

retiredmarine

Jason,  the plan is to do everything but the spray foam insulation myself. You were right about the rainy days, but it looks like the sun may be returning. Still need to backfill and I've been keeping busy emptying the moving trailer into the shipping container. Hopefully the weather holds. Thanks for following along.

Week 7! Household goods and DSL.  Getting closer to that first lumber order!

Week 9 - well the lumber, plumbing, and electrical supplies aren't going to order themselves.
