Title: 16 by 28 Cabin Build
Post by: Migraine Craftsman on March 06, 2019, 08:55:40 PM
Hello all,

Just put a short trailer on Youtube for the next build.

NathanS gave me an idea so I put a lot of nature views in the trailer.

The cabin will be 16 by 28, Ill post the plan I came up with soon as well as all the updates as I build this thing.

Good Morning,  c*

I looked at 4 lots and picked one, here is a vid of the process and also what I am going to be building.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st_QmnDfD3A&t= (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st_QmnDfD3A&t=)

448 square foot footprint, still toying with the idea of a loft but gotta make up my find if it is worth the extra money.

/cheers

Very cool.

It is great to show balancing the cost/practicality of roads, septic, sitework, with having a view. We ran into that problem too many times to count.

Do you have a buyer already lined up for this house too, or will you list it when it's complete?

I will list this thing when I'm almost done with it, I thought about moving in this one, but we'll see. The reason I don't want to list it now is I dont want to traverse the "custom" house build territory, basically I'm trying to avoid drama, so I build it, list it, and sell it.

Life is a hell of a lot simpler that way then to deal with change orders all the time, I hate working backwards, so I only do "spec" homes no "custom"

Thx by the way for suggesting nature shots in my videos that is what I'm gonna go from now on.  c*

That's definitely a smart way to do it.

It really is beautiful down there. The east coast mountains in general are some of my favorite.

We are getting started on 3rd winter now. With a little luck we'll be in mud season soon.  :)

Smart man, I should be so wise... and that's all I'm sayin  :D

I'm working on harvesting timber and sawing framing, sheathing and siding for a friend's house that burned, same footprint. Over the past few weekends we felled and digested one nice white pine for board and batten siding, it yielded 60 1x12's and well more than that many 1x6's for paneling, it'll only take one more whopper to side it at that rate.

One suggestion since you are putting this much effort into your posts. A website is not expensive and then you are hosting and in control of the photos, etc. I've got a couple of small ones, after the initial setup the bill comes to around $20/yr. P-bucket and for that matter all the free hosting... well, think about it, does that sound like a sustainable business model, that stuff is going to disappear again one day.

Thx Don, website is definitelly in the works, I just never did one so it's a slow go. But at some point I will have one. I just like posting here since you guys helped me get started with my business. I said in another post, I even bought plans from this website long time ago but I never built it and lost the plans lol.

I gotta chop down about 6 pines and they are at least 30 feet tall, I wish you could come and get em. I had one of my subs helpers come and get some firewood tho. I will show us messing around with cutting the little guys in about 2 episodes.

Love this website and I'll always post here until you guys throw me out lol.

In this episode I talk about the closing costs and exactly how much I paid for the parcel of land. Also in the video I show an image of the settlement statement, if you are curious how a real estate transaction looks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PDXwZ96O3M (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PDXwZ96O3M)

I'll be breaking ground soon, first, couple of trees will have to come down, then its of to the races.

It finally stopped raining!

Got started on the project, trees came down and some grading was done. I list the PRICE towards the end of the video if you are curious how much I paid for this labor.

The little Kubota is worth it's weight in gold. She picked up everything with no issues and was zooming around, I love what I do. I need to get me one of those.

Definitely jealous of that Kubota.  I am saving up for a small mini x.  I'm leaning towards a Kubota U25.  Decent size and power for a homeowner and I can also trailer it with my half ton pickup.

Me and you both, I wish I had one of those so I didn't have to drop $4K. I looked at the U25 used ones go for $12K still a lot of money.

The footer pour will be next along with the block laying.

A few things that work better for reinforcing steel. Either bend or have some corners pre bent ~6' pieces so there is adequate lap length and the reinforcement is then continuous around the corner. Have at least 3" of concrete covering the steel to avoid the steel corroding and spalling the concrete later rather than running the steel to the ends of the trenches. I think you'll find all that stuff in chapter 4 of the codebook.
Title: Re: 16 by 28 Cabin Build
Post by: Migraine Craftsman on May 05, 2019, 09:41:57 AM
Don, you're right and I have done it both ways before bent and overlap . Both are ok and building inspectors have no issues with it here. I guess it would depend on the size of the place then I could understand when they get a little more picky.

The footers took 6 and a half yards of concrete, that episode will be posted sometime next week, they will definitelly be solid.

My inspector has build homes for 40 years and my main guy is right up there with him. I would trust them both with my life, just good ol people both of em. I am lucky I have good people here to work with, makes life so much easier.

Thx Don, nice to hear from you again.
