ran into a natural example of something yielding "Thermal Mass" as discussed sometimes here for masonry fireplaces, concrete floors and walls, etc.  I was just amazed at this, the effect was significant.
Boys got me up early...still dark, and dragged me off hunting.  Well...it's hot out there!  Pushing 90degrees.   Local state forest, horses on the trails and more, real mixed use!
I walked and walked....and got very hot, and very tired.  I found something REALLY COOL in the woods.  We were in the moraine area (glacier).  I came upon a pile of rocks that was still shaded and it felt cooler as I approached. I sat there for a while... like sitting in a cooler.  The whole massive pile acted as a thermal mass and collected the coolness from the night.  It was in the shade when I got there....but about to be in the sun.  Go bad there tonight when it is cooling off....and it will be like approaching a small over.... warmth.  Very interesting..Never ran into that before.

Good example, Frank.

We found a canyon in the desert that was that way -  110 in the shade outside - about 65 in Hunters Canyon under the waterfall - 70's in the air there.

from here- cool place

Cathedrals do the like. You can think of it as thermal capacity too. Remember, as kids (if you grew up in a cold place) putting warm stones in a sack, under the covers at the foot fo the bed? Works as well with cold as warm.
