Title: ? about framing
Post by: peteh2833 on July 18, 2006, 07:10:04 PM
I have a quick ? about framing walls in the 20' wide 1 1/2 story. Do you recommend 2x4 stud walls or 2x6? Also do the plans give you the dimensions for building your own rafters/trusses?

Use 2x6  more insulation . Althought 2x4 used to be normal and will carry the load , they do not comply with current insulation codes .  If no code is in play and it is strickly a summer place / warm climite  your nrvrer going to insulate etc etc you could use 2x4 . IMO

I guess for the small extra cost of framing I'll use 2x6 since it is in the mountains of north central PA. Thanks

The plans show 2x6 framing (even more important in this house because of the tall studs) and the trusses are diagrammed in scale drawings if you want to build your own.

Thanks John. I'll be ordering the plans soon and will probably build my own trusses.
