Hey thanks Migrane.  I just finished editing and uploading this one. It's the first half (ish) of our solar install.

Looks good, I probably would have gone with romex from your breakers in the loft to your system down below. Hard to tell from the video, but I'm not sure if the wire you used is permitted for use without conduit.

Mike 870

It's THHN it's not allowed without conduit.

Mike 870

I should clarify, I want all my AC wiring in the house to be Romex and easily distinguishable from DC wiring.  All my DC will be Red +(positive) and Black with white tape as - (negative).  That wire run, it's 37.5 volts at max power, and 20 amps, 8 gauge and breaker protected.  So yea I don't advocate what I did, but I'm willing to accept it.

Cool, just making sure you were aware. Too late for this application, but you may check out smurf tubing if you have to do something like this in the future.

Keep up the good work!

Watched the video I liked it, thumbed it (thats sounds dirty) and I subscribed by the way. Come to my channel and subscribe, I have 6 subscribers lol. My next build should be a tiny house some where around 16 by 20 or so, kind of like your cabin.

Migraine Craftsman

Just commented on your video and I gave it a big fat thumbs up lol. Watching it right now.

Mike 870

Thanks man, I appreciate the support!  Here is the video Migrane is referring to.  Part II of the solar install.  It's pretty close now.  Still need to do some things here and there.  Going to get some smurf cable for some of the THHN.  Also will be switching out some of the Romex as time allows.  The Victron stuff is pretty neat.  I haven't left everything turned on unattended yet, that will be the big test.  I have the batteries fully charged and am shutting down while I'm gone.

Here's my final video on my solar install:

I'm not quite done with the system (battery box, conduit in places etc), but I really wanted to move on to other subjects...

Hey youtoobs didn't notify me of your new video and I hit the bell. I thumbed upped your video lol.

Mike 870

Hmm that's weird, wonder why?  Well, thanks for watching.

Hello everyone.  I had a really cold 3 day trip where I finished up the solar then installed a backup furnace for when the wood stove dies down. Although not shown I did get the bedroom mostly insulated (next video).   I got a small efficient 10K BTU unit that doesn't need to be wall mounted.  Which is nice since I have no room to wall mount one in the tiny bedroom.  It's upside is that it's really efficient on propane 92.5%, the downside is that it takes 36 watts to run.  The plan is that it just keeps us warm from early morning until we wake up and stoke the wood stove.  The first night I slept with the furnace on but no insulation it was like sleeping next to a campfire. The second night with the room closed off and partially insulated it was much more comfortable.

Ahhh look at the snow, pretty to look at don't want to shovel it anymore that's why I flocked south  ;D Be safe out there Mike.

Shout out to Countryplans in this one.  Would love to see this site getting the amount of projects posted like it used to before inferior platforms seemed to take over.

This is why I like this forum, I just wish it would come back alive. Great episode Mike, you mentioned books I did that and funny that you say that one of the books I bought was recommended from countryplans it was called "Working Alone" still have it.

Adam Roby

Loving the build also.

I don't get to reply to many posts because I read them at work on my lunch hour but they block replies and new posts (not sure how they do that) so by the time I get home I forget to reply.  The forum does die down quite a bit in the winter, picks up in the spring.  I also bought the working alone book based on recommendations on this site, along with a few others along the way.  We tend to share what works and what doesn't.

I agree with everything you said.

It is a shame the way social media platforms have really just taken over the internet. It's almost like we're back at square one. I think that there are fewer posters now because these smaller sites will not show up in google results anymore. Search results that used to let people find countyplans are now going to send you to houzz, instagram, youtube, or some other company that has spent millions on marketing. There are no new people to replace those who have left.

Also I may just be paranoid but when you go onto those bigger sites like reddit, I am starting to wonder if a lot of the comments and posts are just bots now?

BTW i actually really like how your practice shed came out.

Mike 870

It's crazy, have you noticed how the ability on FB to "show most recent posts first". has either disappeared or been hidden so deep it's in a completely inconvient place.  They want the AI to determine what you see to keep you on the platform as long as possible to feed you as many ads as  possible.

Believe it or not I probably hurt myself by mentioning other sites because one of the things YouTube dings your videos for is weather people leave the platform or stay and consume more media and ads.

Here's the latest update.  We hiked up our ravine, did a bit more electrical, then started finishing out the inside of the bedroom.

Looking good, left a comment on youtube about pants, I have some similar to yours all covered up in paint, caulking and God knows what.  c*

Your ravine area is beautiful!

Mike its January the DRYWALL month! /cheers  c*

Mike 870

Speaking of Drywall.  I'm back at it.  Some people hate drywall.  I rather like it in kind of the same way I enjoy mowing a lawn.  I don't like the act of pushing the lawnmower, but I like seeing the nice clean cut grass lines make their way through the yard.  In the next video I do craftsman style trim around the windows It came out really nice I can't wait to finish that video.

Funny - I've been following your channel from the first episode.  I stumbled across it looking for builds and ideas and not from here.  Nice to see the cross-pollination happen!

Great job on your build and you've given me some good ideas along the way!
