Andrew, the back door was open and the uphill patio leads down to the kitchen and front room - as he got into the uphill patio it was easy for him to come pay us a visit.  :)

Ben, I would love a video of that ...... [scared]

mtman, not sure which is harrier.... my arms or his legs..... [waiting]   Likes me... Hey, Spidey, get your love hooks offa me.....  rofl

Yes ....Sassy is pretty brave.  :)

OK - now for the stupidity.... I unplugged my computer this morning before going to prison.... set it on the table to put it in the case - picked up the case and walked out the door in a haze... about a hundred miles later I realize I forgot it... so .. a trip to Costco to check out their tablet ... but decided against it in favor of the Acer Aspire with full computer functionality and a 320 GB HD as well as Win7.  Now I can work again and be in touch.... [ouch]...... I was having a major crisis.... an anxiety attack... withdrawals....

Two people said they knew I would buy one and one of them I have only worked with for one day....the other was Sassy. [ouch]

Well...highly unexpected, but this job is a piece of cake compared to the last one.

A state job, I expected all kinds of overbearing officials and inspectors etc. giving me a bad time.....[waiting]

Well... wouldn't you know it... everyone here has been as nice as can be.  The state IOR is a great and helpful guy.  While I heard mention that he was unbending and hard to deal with, I find that not to be the case.  I simply discuss what I want to do - ask his opinion and what I can get away with that will meet his requirements and things have been great.  The guard has yet to check my papers or truck, but hey... I'm not gonna start anything... he's got the guns... [scared]

We had an unusable fastener problem that would have given us trouble with the anchor and the replacement we wanted to use had the wrong thread screws in the lead insert, but I agreed to run the wrong one in to expand it then pull it out and run the proper thread screw in to replace it.

Using my 18v Makita tools this is pretty easy - a bit time consuming but it gets us to a point where he can consider it as per plan and no need for re-engineering.  [ouch]

We all like that.  All of this is done using the 18v Rotohammer to drill the 5/16 holes - there will be about 1200 of them, and the small impact wrenchs to run the bolts and security fasteners.

Being a bit tight on the security fasteners, he suggested getting a long thread hex bolt to run first.  I cut a bit of a tapping slot on the end and it is working great.  Got 20 feet (less) yesterday...went shopping - got what we needed then did about 110 feet today..... getting better... :)

As John says... "None of us are as smart as all of us.... "   or was that "some of us..."... no ... wait a minute... My mind is gone.... I need some sleep.... [noidea'

That is quite a kick, TT.  :)

Cows have such a great sense of humor......

I am not sure how they got a bale of hay into that thing but those cows sure wanted it.... [noidea'

Cows are so curious, I guess they just all wanted to follow it.  Reminds me of that old saying.... "Curiousity killed the cow."   [waiting]

Oh yes.....[idea]

I forgot to warn you.....

When picking up Tarantulas, please be careful.  Move slowly and safely so they do not fall off.  They are not like a cat when you are carrying them.  They are vulnerable like me when a woman is in control of my actions.... [waiting]

....I meant.... they can be hurt as they are not ready for a fall, and when they hit the ground it may break their little heart... I mean body... :)

Be very careful not to hurt them...

Glenn I thought "Beefsteak's" days were numbered.  You actually want to butcher before they get old.  The quality of the meat is so much better. But maybe you have gotten attached to your new found friends.  ;D

Ernest T. Bass

It's hard not to get attached, no matter how much trouble they are... That's why I keep trying to get Glenn to get himself a nice milk cow. She could follow him around in a little trailer to his jobs and help him eat/drink healthy... ;)

Plus, girls are so much easier to fence... One sorry little strand of (barely) electric wire and they stay in.

Hmm... well, John... I'm not hungry right now... and in fact have only been home about 10 days in 4 months.  I'm just keeping the meat fresh.... [waiting]

They are kind of fun to watch..... and they do have a secondary job of preventing fire danger.  The new neighbor would like to buy part of him and several at the Church would like to buy some.  I might have him butchered after while but i don't know much about splitting a cow up fairly.  Suggestions?

Bossy is supposed to have a calf soon Andrew and I have read that the
Dexters are willing to share with the calf but I would need to make a stanchion to hang on to her.  [ouch]

Normally you will only reap 50-60% of the cows actual weight when butchered.  I haven't seen him in a while but I would just guess he will weigh around 1200 -1400 #.  So don't expect more than 600# pounds of meat.  It's really hard to divide one up other than halfed or quartered.  So I wouldn't even try anything less and be fair.  Your butcher shop should be able to make that division fairly.

I just took some to the market and left a steer to butcher this winter.  He is worse than a weaned calf now that he is alone. Bawling constantly.  Just like the calves he will soon get over it.  I usually wait until mid January to butcher so I will grain him for 6-8 weeks before.

glenn kangiser

Thanks, John.

With the work I have right now it will be a bit before I am around to get it taken care of anyway.   I also will have to grain him out again.

I have been waiting around for the calf to show up too.   Hate to be under 4 cows.... what kind of cowboy has less than 4 cows.... [noidea'

I also figured that it might be safer for the calf if there are a few extra feet around to protect it.  Beefsteak stomped on Suzy when she was biting him.  We keep her tied up nearly all of the time now but I don't need her inciting other dogs to chase the cows.  Bully boy heads straight for the dogs when they get too near also.

Oh no! I can even picture Glenn hauling a cow around at the job sites  :) How do you like the new Acer Aspire Glenn?

glenn kangiser

Hey mtman.... thinking a bit about what ol' Andrew said there about that cow following me to work and giving me fresh milk...... [idea]

Well.... you can ask Sassy, and I think she can confirm that I do love my fresh milk, but I think if I was to go and put a lip lock on Bossy's udder at work, the guys would think I was weird... after all ... I'm not a kid in Cambodia ..... [ouch]

The Acer is an amazing little computer.  I was surprised.  The resolution is over 1300x800 as I recall or close to there and it makes reading it pretty easy even without glasses.  It has multi touch on the touch pad so you can re-size print etc with it.

It has a card reader and I think 4 USB ports and Blue tooth.  Win7 set up my printer in just a few minutes and I was back to work and of course social networking not to mention that all of the letter agencies now have complete knowledge of my whereabouts and actions........ besides their tracking of my cell phone.

One disconcerting thing though ..........no light for when the camera is on... anytime FBI, CIA or any other spy agency wants to see me naked with my Acer video camera, they could and I'd never know the difference.... [waiting]

I am aware that that could be done with any modern computer anyway though... so no big deal... it is true ...all of our electronics devices have full computer capabilities in them and all can be spy devices if the PTB so desire... possibly even that new flatscreen TV in your room.....:)

Oh well ... there's my paranoia rant for the day... heh

[rofl2]  Thanks, Texas Tornado!  That gave me a good laugh this morning!  Hadn't had a chance to read it as I've not been on the internet much the past couple weeks.  I've been learning to do ultrasounds on pregnant women at the Merced Alpha Crisis Pregnancy Center.  It's been so much fun!  There were 3 nurses learning - one is the new nurse manager of the clinic - I worked w/her a few days at a VA clinic when I was filling in there.  She is so funny - we laughed so much - sometimes the young ladies we were doing the ultrasound would laugh so hard, the picture on the screen would be bouncing up & down.  We all passed - in fact the instructer told us we were the most fun group & did the best of any of the people she had trained on ultrasound!, not to mention the oldest  ::)  I'll be volunteering once a week doing ultrasound & will eventually do some counseling - although you get a chance to talk to the girls when you are doing ultrasounds.

Tore up my Makita 18v Rotohammer... I drilled 76  5/6 x 2 1/2 deep holes without stopping alternating batteries with fresh ones and apparently that was too fast to allow sufficient cooling as I smoked the motor.

Immediately ordered another one over my Android so it will be here Monday on Amazon Prime one day shipping.  Bare tool is 199.50, but I saved that much in wages for a helper if I had been running corded tools all week.

That handrail is 75 feet long.  It is the one that burned out my Makita.....   I had to make and polish out 3 TIG welds in it.

Now ... on to the next matter of business....

I fear I violated the law while at the work site........

Here is what I mean.... while I was in the John, I read this notice and fear that there is no way I could not have violated it.... I mean I am sure I deposited a bio-hazard in there a few times.... [waiting]

SHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhh........... don't tell them.... they may not let me out......... [scared]

When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .

glenn kangiser

I don't think I'd want to be there if that's what it is, PEG.....I'm sure I'd be a terrible dance partner......[scared]

but yeah - somewhere near to 800 feet of it. [ouch]

It's in the new medical facility there... free healthcare, eh?

I suppose many could have problems and need something to lean on.... [waiting]

Hey... Where do you see some of the nicest cow tits in Mariposa?   Right here at the Underground Complex... that's where.... [waiting]

Bossy changed a lot in the last two days - I almost thought she had already delivered ... even looked around to see if it rolled out under the fence and laid a few RR ties at the low end to be sure that doesn't happen.  [ouch]

Our new neighbor, Greg said he has come up and checked on her a couple of times and he thinks it will be this week.  :)

In reading this guide I think it might be early this week.

I'm working Fresno two days so I can check in on her a bit.  c*

ScottA

I'm waiting for the Glenn cow milking video.  ;D

glenn kangiser

I hope to oblige you on that, Scott, but I have to build a stanchion or something for her as I do not think she will let me put my cold hands on those nice warm... you get the idea.... [waiting]

Not without being restrained anyway.....

Then if I build a stanchion for her will I ever get her into it more than once?  She is tame within about 4 feet and that is it... guess I need to learn how to take control of my cow, eh?  [noidea'

It's fun milking cows as long as it not a daily 8hrs job.The kitties smell milk, they'll come running.

CjAl

It took me so long to read this thread i have forgotten most of it already.  ???

ScottA

For anyone who's not had it, there is nothing like the taste of fresh milk. The stuff they sell in the stores is not even close.
