Title: Installing beveled cedar siding?
Post by: John_M on April 10, 2007, 05:59:19 PM
Does anyone know about staining this type of siding?  Can I stain it after it is up or is there an advantage to doing it before?  It would be so much easier if I could do it after!!

I just received a shipment of it today and I am planning on prestaining, but now I am thinking???  Is that really worth it?   :-?

You can set up some horses so you are applying the stain to a horizontal surface, lay plastic to control the inevitable drips or overspray.  If you stain it after installation shrinkage will show lines of unstained areas.

It is a good idea to seal the backside of wood siding so it doesn't absorb moisture. This is most important if you will be installing over foam sheathing or plastic housewrap without a drainage plane standoff to allow airflow around the back of the siding.
