Rastra Block

While in Panama I met an interesting fellow building with Rastra block. This is a system for structural walls using panels of foam (recycled beadboard) and concrete. The image below is a typical panel 7 1/2' long and 12" wide.


The wall can start right at the footing and go straight to the roof. You don't need to worry about what will be backfilled and what is above the ground. This makes it perfect for buidlings that will be earth bermed.

When completed the cores are poured and reinforced with rebar making for a very solid and fire resistant wall. Well insulated too. R-35 for the 12" thick panel.
