Title: Load Walls
Post by: VannL on July 13, 2011, 03:05:45 PM
I have the small cabin kit and will one day soon build for experience, but our dream is a 20 X 30 X 2.  I have a question though, as I am looking toward the future.  To match our needs, I would of course need to rearrange a few walls, but I want to make sure that I don't mess with load walls.  How can I tell which ones are load walls?

The 2-story Universal Cottage can be built with no interior bearing walls. All floor and roof loads go to the outside walls. See example houses and download a study plan HERE (http://www.jshow.com/y2k/listings/57.html)

Does that make it harder or different to build than a traditional frame built home?  Or different from the 14 X 24 that comes with the kit?

No, both houses use standard framing. Platform framing on the 2 story.
