i joist beams

New to this forum and homev renovation....

Older home a room 12' x 30' only has joists (12') no centre support - is using an engineered i beam at 30' then using 4"x"4 columns (3' approx) into 12" concrete footings ok? If so how many support columns/ footings would someone suggest? I'm also having to sister quite a few of the existing 2"x6" joists......... d*
