Happy Christmas everyone. I've got a question perfect for an afternoon nap on Christmas day c* ...it's about loft beds and mattresses.
For those of you building the little house with a loft, what are you thinking for loft beds? mattress on the loft floor? OR a built up custom frame with a mattress on top? Any special favorite kinds of mattresses to look at or consider? I havent shpped for a mattress in a long time, and don't know much about the newer foams. Anyone have any advice?

I'm thinking some kind of new mattresses with comforter/duvets .... in an 8' x 14' loft, a twin mattress fits nice and snug on each end , leaving the center headroom area open.
My dad made plywood beds hanging from chains on the sloped ceiling side and hinged on the kneewall far enough down to clear the mattress, many moons ago.
Just don't get that memory foam - 2" is ok on top of a mattress, but the 4 inch - it flattens out where you lay & if you try to move to farther to the middle or side it feels like you have to roll up a hill - once it flattens it's not soft anymore >:(
when our camper blew away (win-ado took the top right off it) we salvaged all the foam mattereses and seating and have used them for many things since. We do sleep on the mattereses when we have company and now are using them in our under-construction place. They aren't as nice as a bed, but good enough.
Anyone ever have a GOOD sleeper-sofa? We're big guys and they don't seem to hold up at all.
I agree with Sassy about the memory foam stuff. This is a case of a product being sold by making the key characteristic sound like a good thing when in reality it isn't. Memory foam is quite honest in their advertising
in that the foam remembers how you imprinted on it. Sadly enough, this is the opposite thing you want the foam to do if you are sleeping on it. You want it to bounce right back to its original shape.

I've had good luck with the inflatable beds/mattresses. Used them directly on rubber gym mats.
