Didnt know there was another sky watcher on CP. Used to help run the planetarium at a local community college years ago, and spent my summer vacations at star parties. Too bad the eclipse wont be fully visible from NA.
Ah, lunar eclipses aren't all that amazing... I'm looking forward to the solar eclipse in August 2017. ;D

I heard a Mayan being interviewed about the 2012 end of calander. "I always assumed it just started over the next day". I think that might be our Judeo/Christian mind at work... Pre Christian thinking of time as a wheel vs time as a line.

I did catch the end of the eclipse very early this morning as the light was coming back onto the moon. There was a short break in the clouds.
This eclipse apparently has some interesting astrological characteristics. This from a friend who follows such things:
"This is an exceedingly rare eclipse of the Moon. The last time it happened on the longest, darkest night of the year was at least 400 years ago. Making it even more rare is that the Earth, Moon and Sun will all be clearly aligned with the Galactic Core of our Milky Way."
But when I woke up later the world looks largely unchanged. Drat!
