Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

I make a special announcement every january 25th. Just for our glenn!

:)

Ahh, yes, Stinky, my love.  The infamous 340 days 'til Saturnalia announcement.  You love to yank my chain, don't you...... :)

QuoteThis date was probably chosen because the Winter Solstice and the ancient pagan Roman midwinter festivals called 'Saturnalia' and 'Dies Natalis Solis Invicti' took place in December.

The Winter Solstice is the day where there is the shortest time between the sun rising and the sun setting. It happens on December 21st or 22nd. To pagans this meant that the winter was over and spring was coming and they had a festival to celebrate it and worshipped the sun for winning over the darkness of winter. (The Winter Solstice in Scandinavia and some other parts of northern Europe is called Yule and is where we get Yule Logs from.)

The Roman Festival of Saturnalia took place between December 17th and 23rd and honoured the Roman god Saturn. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti means 'birthday of the unconquered sun' and was held on December 25th (when the Romans thought the Winter Solstice took place) and was the 'birthday' of the Pagan Sun god Mithra. In the pagan religion of Mithraism, the holy day was Sunday and is where get that word from!

Laugh In was a little sophisticated for me when it was on TV, seems like I was about eight years old. Hogan's Heroes, yay! Loved that show, during about the same time period. Came on right after F Troop. Remember THAT one?

glenn kangiser

I knew of F troop, don't recall watching it.

I remember Andy of Mayberry, Ed Sullivan, Alfred Hitchcock, The Munsters, Lassie, The Lone Ranger, Sky King, The Cisco Kid.... [waiting]

Little Rascals "our gang" was a classic.  When the sound was added and syndicated for TV in the early 50's .  The remake didn't have the heart of the original.

Oh yes and Bonanza was an all time favorite.

RainDog

What a hijack, huh?

Little Rascals is great. Just as fun to watch now as it ever was, maybe even more so.

glenn kangiser

That brings up one of my favorites... Amos and Andy....

I wonder if I completely covered Stinky's topic? hmm heh

But we thought you wanted to bury it Glenn. ;D

Just to continue the hi-jack; the funnest memory from Laugh In was that they predicted that Ronald Reagan would be president 20 years in advance.  :)

And on the subject of Hogan's Hero's, a widow I know of a WWII POW who spent many month's is a German camp did not appreciate that TV show.  It made me embarrassed to have like it.  :-[

Sassy

Anybody ever watch Zorro - I was in love with him at the young age of 5, I think  :-*  Or Lassie - us kids used to fight over who got to shake Lassie's paw  ;D  How 'bout Paladin "Have Gun will Travel" my brother used to love to sing that song - if me or my younger sis/bro tried to sing we did it in fear of our life   :o  And Sky King?  or was that mentioned already   ???
