Title: Help - I lost my router base plate
Post by: n74tg on October 24, 2009, 05:47:07 PM
Yes, you read the title right.  I converted my router to a shaper so I could make some molding.  Unfortunately I can't remember where I "stored" the router base plate.  I'm sure I will eventually find it, but in the meantime can anybody suggest an alternative material I can make a new/temporary base plate out of.  I've thought about 1/4" masonite and while I could slippery it up some with some paste wax, something just doesn't sound right about using masonite for this part.

It's an old Craftsman 2hp router. I haven't tried to look up the part on the internet yet.

Anybody got any ideas for other slippery smooth easy to find materials?     thanks

Fiberglass or graphite sheet stock from a well equipped hobby shop or a plastics supplier. I used to buy .062 thru .125 thick fiberglass and graphite stock from a local hobby shop for building electric RC race car chassis. A plastic like Kydex could also work.

Lexan is far safer than plexiglass or regular acrylic.
