Title: 16x20 cabin in Ontario
Post by: snatapov on July 28, 2008, 01:23:29 PM
Sharing pictures of the cabin. The cabin is 16x20 including 4' deck.
So far about 5K spend on materials. Only labor cost payed is for diging piers. The rest is "self-labor".
Here some tips for saving: Windows are actually door inserts, from garage sales. Lot of new houses owners replacing them and selling old inserts for about 10$. Door is restored from garage sale too. All siding is log shaped pine. Shingles are actually copper foil covered asphalt shinges found on craiglists for the price of regular Home Depot asphalt singles.

We are starting interior soon, and I would love to see some ideas for interior finishing.

snatapov good looking cabin.  I see that I am not the only one that has bird nest on their site.  Really is quite common in the initial building state as you provide the roof over their heads and they will do the rest on the sill plate, rafter or any place they feel safe.

Great photos of a cute cabin!  Can't wait to see interior finishing shots!  Just for perspective, how high is the front-deck wall?  The chair in the loft gives a good idea of the headroom, so I'm just curious...still in the planning and dreaming stage here.

Thanks for the eye candy,

Great cabin and some very clever use of materials. I had not heard of the door inserts used as windows nor copper covered composition shingles. Both are classy low-cost solutions.

Please keep us posted... and let us help out if we can.

That really is a fine looking cabin!  Love the shingles on the roof - guess I'll have to do some looking on Craig's list...  that would be ideal for parts of our roof - makes it look like Hansel & Gretal cottagey...  keep us updated on it!
