I was out on the back deck last night having a cigarette and I was bored, so I stepped off our porch, just to see how big it was. 17x12. I started looking at it, thinking that the small cabin I'd like to build on dad's farm is just a little bit bigger than that. Then I realized, once a bed and small bathroom and small kitchen and that thing would be cramped. Sometimes it takes a full size mock-up to make a person realize just how small something is. I was shocked.

Something I've noticed about buildings or rooms in general is that a space seems much smaller when it's mocked up out in the open than it does once the walls and roof close it in. When house is first laid out with string lines it looks pretty small but not so small after it's built.
