Post by: maxdog on February 18, 2009, 09:17:18 AM
Good day to everyone.  I new to the site and in the infant stages of planing/building of a cabin in PA.
Has anyone modified the width to 24' fron the stock plans????  I would like to have 2 small bedrooms on the main floor( due to 2 very little boys).

thanks alot,

Karl

 w* maxdog.

It is easy to lengthen a plan. You simply add more of the same floor, wall, roof sections. However, increasing the width involves a change of material sizes and engineering to be certain the increased loads will be supported.

I don't recall any specific project here that went from a 20 wide to a 24 wide, but that's just me. I'm sure others will chime in. It can be done, but it has to be done properly.

We have talked about two 12' wide Shed roofs side by side with 1 tall to make clerestory windows above.   I think the Solar saltbox is 24' wide also.
