I've narrowed my pick down to Jack Daniels or Jim Beam because it's going to take a bottle of one of them to get me through election night.

It really doesn't matter who you vote for.  The computer programmers will install whoever the PTB wants.  The one who is eventually installed in office is picked by entities who control the world.  Not the US citizens.   :o

You are presented with a group of mostly unacceptable choices, a few jokers, a carefully planned and choreographed  song and dance to make the people think the vote is real... (if they are naive enough), then installation proceeds as planned by the elite.  Look at the previous installation of Bush and Obama ...2 times each......

Please vote if it makes you feel good.  :)

There is a story floating around from the secret service that says the Clintons were the worst in the treatment of the support people of the white house.
Hillary might exceed Obama in gun sales though.

C. Death by fire ants

Seriously, I'm excited that we have a woman as a major candidate, and I'm excited that we have a total outsider for a major candidate. Many all-time firsts are happening in this election. But the woman we have would be the all-time least favorable candidate EVER, if it weren't for The Donald, who's even LESS favorable! Old sourpuss me has been predicting this nation's demise for many years now, and the continuing division and polarity are accelerating the process. I weep for our future.

I'm no doomsday fanatic holding signs saying the world is ending, but I do see the potential for social collapse.  With the growing hatred of the western world from the east, it does scare me the potential chaos that can happen after this election (and I can't do squat about it cause I am Canadian).  It wouldn't take much to cause us a whole lot of trouble...

One thing people on this forum have going for them is the ability to survive on minimal means.  Most here know how to build a home, live in the woods, hunt, etc.  Many of the city dwellers know nothing of survival without their filtered sink water and supermarket meats.

Over 300 million people here and we get Clinton v Trump. smh

I'm convinced that the people who are smart enough to steer this country in the right direction are too smart to run for president.

Gary Johnson will just split the vote and give it to Hillary, as Perot did for her husband.

I do not know how Trump will be as President.  Could be great, could be a bust--- but consider this.
Trump is held accountable for every thing he says, everything he's done, everything he's proposed--by the media, his opponents, his own party.  Not so much for Clinton.  There is no end to the scandals, political opponents who have ended up dead, cover ups, lies, and security breaches.   They come to the surface but we're quickly told it's old news, or 'what does it really matter at this point?' or you're being racist or bigoted or whatever.  Point is, there is a very long history of people covering for her and her husband and she WILL NOT be held accountable the way Trump will.
That, and his list of Supreme Court nominees, is enough for me to support Trump.

A vote for Gary Johnson is a vote for HRC
A vote for HRC is step toward loss of 2nd Amendment and a future Supreme Court that will last for generations, I will not do that to my children and grandchildren!

Most of us grey beards will suffer a little with a HRC admin but the ones we love will suffer far more than we, remember this when Nov. 8 rolls around, if there is an election.

My choices were Ben Carson or Ted Cruz, so I will vote for Trump, at least he has the stones to say what is on his mind, he definitely is not PC but being PC is what has put us where we are at.

May God help us.

With the growing hatred of the western world from the east...
Gotta argue with that just a leeetle bit.
They may or may not hate us, but they know they need us, intact.
Not to torch this subject, but China relies on the US to do well enough to keep buying their product.
Pretty precarious on all sides, aspects.
A tenuous confidence.

Economy.

Learnt the general aspect at the ripe old age of 8.
Me and a half dozen neighbor kids played business.
Set up cardboard box stands.
Needed greenbacks.
The willow tree on our hill provided ideal currency.
I sold the currency for stuff.
Bought Jimmie's dad's wood slats.
Made swords.
Next day my currency withered.
Picked more.
Nobody wanted it.
Dessie had found her own tree.
Billy and I attacked with my wooden swords.
Kirby had iron rods from outta nowhere.
Iron rods can do serious damage to cardboard box stands, not to mention wooden swords.
Discovered Betty's cuteness was a tremendous attribute in the spy department.
Infiltrated.

Guess who ended up with all the iron rods?

Kirby's dad.

So, at an early age, I determined the letter E pretty much survived after C.
Confidence
Currency
And
The word 'Covet'
After all, if someone else didn't want what you had, well, you could have all the willow leaves in the world....
The other letter, of course, was I.
Because somewhere someday somebody will rise up and beat heck outta U and yer puny W with it.

This retarded treatise got me a C in high school.

I wish to heck I'd saved that essay, because it was much more voluminous and articulate.
Was rather proud of it.
Submitted it to the profs in history, English, and algebra.
It actually raised my GPA.

Anyway, I won't soon be running for much of anything....unless I get wind of an ol' foe comin' after me.

But thanks

From an outsider looking in, it's a scary thought either way.
I just hope there is no East vs West backlash as a result of the Donald getting elected... with everything he's saying, being "selected" essentially means(to the world) that the people agree with his rhetoric so everyone becomes a target... and despite being only a neighbor to the USA, we are damn close neighbors...  not sure what Hillary projects to the rest of the world, sad thing is we only ever hear what Trump says, very rarely do they even mention that he is running against anyone.

Hillary is disaster and who knows what we are in for.  It was said she quit Sec. of State to distance herself from the snuff job on Benghazi.  Not a embassy but an illegal gun deal warehouse a  mile from the embassy and things hadn't been going as they should.... Just more Clinton business as usual.

In the last two elections, I was amazed at how inept the Republican party had become, and it's only gotten worse. Looks like the Democrats will continue to have free reign for some time to come. Regardless of your political bent, a one-party system is NOT a good thing. There will probably continue to be somewhat of a balance in the House and Senate, so nothing will get done.

There were no unexpected questions. There was nothing that came in out of left field. She was simply prepared and he was not. She is prepared to be president, he is not. Doesn't mean either should be president. That is probably our fault as much as theirs. We need to do a better job of weeding out unworthy candidates, identifying and getting good candidates to the front earlier.

You can look at it that way if you want - but I attend weekly public speaking meetings (Toastmasters) and have seen the best speakers in the world present - and even they would have not had the ability to respond to questions as succinctly or thoroughly as she did without knowing what they were first.  Doesn't pass the smell test for me knowing what it takes to do it on the fly even having an idea of the general topic.  I don't like either of them myself.

The entire presidential race is outlandish.  I don't know what's true or not -- but considering the blatant in-your-face manipulation of the media and economy in support of Hillary by the status quo -- anything is possible.  They will do whatever it takes to keep the game rigged in their favor and have already prepped us for DHS to take over the election (i.e. ensure Hillary wins for our own good).  We are living in the matrix.

Looking at the photos it seems obvious the Clinton ballot box story is a hoax. It's nice to see that found as the printing on the boxes in the purported proof looked off, did not have the correct perspective or slant and I am short on time to look much myself.

The Soros , Snopes story popped up years ago and has never been proven. FWIW it was probably pushed on us by some of the same types who pushed the ballot box story as truth.

I doubt this topic will sway any of the (R) or for that matter any the (D) votes.

Not in all states.

https://ballotpedia.org/Ballot_access_for_presidential_candidates

QuoteAn individual can run as a write-in candidate. In 34 states, a write-in candidate must file some paperwork in advance of the election. In nine states, write-in voting for presidential candidates is not permitted. The remaining states do not require write-in candidates to file paperwork in advance of the election.

Also, with all but two states being winner take all a write in candidate has about a zero percent chance of receiving any electoral college votes.

Now NY attorney general has told the Trump Foundation to cease fundraising. Called it "a continuing fraud upon the people of the state of New York."

This is crazy. I was giving Trump a chance before the first debate. Even ardent supporters are at the end of the book trying to explain why he did so poorly.

Looks like the Clinton's are headed back to the white house. A real shame... those leaked DNC emails explicitly showed the establishment did whatever they could to stop Sanders. I think this country could use a little populism.

No doubt in my mind the AG decision is political.  Just as the one not to stop the Clinton Foundation is.

Real Clear Politics shows Clinton up almost across the board but remember the Brexit vote.

When they call me I hang up.  I have no interest in sharing my views with pollsters.  So, who knows.

I'm an 'Anybody but Clinton' Libertarian who won't vote for Johnson because 1:  he isn't a libertarian by any real stretch 2:  the American people won't support him.

I believe the Libertarian Party fails because they want to.  They just don't bother to ever mount a serious threat because they put goofballs up who aren't even real Libertarians.  Being a Libertarian doesn't mean you aren't serious, aren't polished, aren't professional etc but they keep putting up people who do stupid things but raise money.  What they need is a very serious, maybe Jefferson like, candidate who espouses Constitutional Libertarianism and is a class act professional but not a politician.  I think they'd win then.

This thread seems to have died, seeing as the mainstream media has pretty much called the election in favor of Hillary. Too bad, it's been a fun discussion. It's not so funny now, though, considering where we are so close to the election. I saw a joke the other day: 'Trump and Hillary are stranded on a boat in the middle of the ocean- Who survives? America. America survives.'

I blame the media for the Trump phenomena. Week after week, he was the lead story on Meet The press, despite all of the other candidates. They couldn't stop talking about him, and here we are.

I've been pretty pessimistic about the future of America for some years now, and it only seems to be getting worse. Regardless of your political viewpoint, I think it's healthy to have a change in power once in a while; the pendulum swings the other way to even out the excesses of the outgoing party. After two terms of Obama, though, we are now heading into a similar Hillary era. Unless her health gives out, she'll likely go two terms as well. There's simply too much support for the progressive/ socialist agenda. With liberal Supreme Court justices being the result, the SC will no longer be politically balanced. We'll become like Europe, with outrageous taxes and a nanny state mind set.

I try to stay politically neutral, but it's no secret that I'm not much in favor of bigger and bigger government, more and more rules and regulations. Today's entitlement mentality says, "let the government pay for everything." with little thought as to where the money actually comes from. As more and more people get in the 'life boat', it settles deeper and deeper into the water until we all drown.

I really haven't decided what I will do on Election Day. Write in? Stay home? Organize a protest? Just vote for the under ballot? Hmmm...

I feel that this election is only about one thing, the Supreme Court. All it takes is 1 or 2 liberal minded, activist judges to be appointed and life as we know it will decline faster than the last 8 years have, we know the spineless establishment will not stand up against the appointments.
If everyone will just give a few minutes of thought about their children and grandchildren, there is no choice to make.

Disclaimer: I took my tin foil hat off before writing this.

I've got no say or opinion, but these Facebook videos always seem to point to Trump as being evil and they are fun to watch, probably because I am not personally offended by any of it...

SCOTUS is the key today, the only thing I see as mattering.

And we're going to lose it.

and the Hillary hits keep coming.  FBI email probe reopened.  i still say that she got the 1st debate questions ahead of time based on her responses.  another video surfaced of a reporter (Andrea Mitchell - wife of Alan Greenspan) asking her a question which was texted to her by a Clinton staffer.  and Obama is out praising Obamacare which is set to increase rates between 25%-110% next year, while simultaneously trying to start a war with Russia.  Hillary would put through the largest tax increase in American history, work to dilute the constitution, push for more illegal immigration and 500% more (potentially dangerous) refugees.  Govt. workers make on average 16% more than private sector workers doing the same job.  different rules and laws for them vs. us.  that's just a small sample of a corrupt politician and political system that places their interests above those of the American people.  this really is the most important election of my lifetime and we better get it right or our country is toast.

Considering your only two options, is there really a right?  Corruption versus nuclear fallout if someone happens to tweet something rude.
I've tried watching the debates... I have yet to see any real thought provoking ideas, its all been schoolyard insults and bullying... far from anyone would expect of a president of the most powerful country on the planet.  I really can't believe how the US has gotten itself into this mess...

Funny how the movies predicted this years ago:

Actually, if one studies history they would discover that US Politics has been this way as far back as at the founding of the nation:

"That bastard brat of a Scottish peddler! His ambition, his restlessness and all his grandiose schemes come, I'm convinced, from a superabundance of secretions, which he couldn't find enough whores to absorb!" John Adams about Alexander Hamilton

Jefferson called John Adams a 'blind, bald, crippled toothless man who is a hideous hermaphroditic character with neither the force and fitness of a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman.'

Heck even Lincoln said this about an opponent:   'The trouble with [General Joseph] Hooker is that he's got his headquarters where his hindquarters ought to be.'

and that's nothing!  Back then the papers were all owned by the political types (which was really everyone) and very partisan.  Papers actually attacked each other ruthlessly.

Frankly, Trump acts far more like the founders than phony politicians of today and one could argue that it was that rude talk that formed this great nation.

Ha!

We, or at least I, did not hear much about him down here in the SW USA.  Did he not rush to Fort McMurray and was criticized for not being on the scene??  Or did he rush there and was criticized??

This was fortuitous. The latest round of wikileaks emails showed that the new head of the DNC was forwarding debate questions to the Clinton campaign.

The previous head of the DNC (now officially part of the Clinton camp) had to resign for colluding with the Clinton campaign to beat Sanders.

Seems like hard evidence that Clinton was and is willing to undermine democracy in order to become president.

That's a conversation for another thread.  It was more meant for Canadian's to get a laugh out of.  Let's just say that he's more about "looking cool" and getting selfie's with heads of state rather than actually getting any governing done, but the people seem to love him anyways.  We're just too easy going eh.

I'd wager there is something to this - we shall learn more in the coming months.  Someone posted a question on Quora: "Is the Atlantic (thewire) left-wing biased ?"  response follows.

I have subscribed to the Atlantic for about 3 years (and cancelled my subscription this month) so can give an answer from that perspective. The politicalness of the magazine has changed drastically this year as it went from being largely apolitical magazine to a hardcore leftwing outfit- and this all happened in the course of 2015.  I spoke with others who read it and got the same opinion, so it's not just me.  My guess is there was a change in leadership of the magazine that led to this deliberate shift.

This is quite unfortunate as it used to be a general-interest magazine, writing about broad subjects such as unique places, interesting personal stories, science, etc- and the quality of the articles was top-notch.  Ocasionally they would brush up on political issues, and were left-leaning but in the selection of issues they discussed rather than opinion "bias" per se.

This year they went off the reservation- put a front page story of a nutjob race-bater who was arguing for reparations for blacks, and the argument lacked any intellectual merit that would be interesting to read- something straight off msnbc.  Over the course of last few months, they had a number of articles from blacks claiming that "its' all whitey's fault", and a bunch of anti-capitalist rants to top it off.  Then, they just had a huge piece on Al Gore's sustainable investing, and the article contained so much spin it was painful to page through.

The unfortunate victim of this shift was quality journalism of which very little seems to be left

I am shocked. I truly expected Hillary to win, and go on to a second term as well. In the end, I couldn't vote for either of them, and concentrated on the down ballot.

A co-worker (retired from WV and relocated to WA)  of mine sent me this and it makes a lot of sense.

We were all Americans yesterday, as we are today and will be tomorrow. Democracy is a pendulum that swings both ways in time to keep us generally moving in a straight line forward. In four or eight years, if we do not like our course, we will change it again. The Democratic Party did not fail Democrats, any more than the Republican Party failed Republicans eight years ago, they are both equally effective and absolutely essential for a Democracy to survive. As an Independent from a largely Democratic state that voted 68% for Trump, I have seen the ebb and flow of this process. The pendulum is our checks and balance, if it ever stops swinging, we are all in trouble. Embrace the process, no one likes to lose, but we are all actually still winning as long as that pendulum continues to swing.

Read the text of Federalist 10.
I wonder if with the advent of social media and some of the press that dominates discussion if we have become not a large republic, but a small one.

I had mostly ignored social media for years, until George Floyd protests were happening on the other side of the planet. Networks like twitter are "small world" in that everyone is only a few connections from everyone else. A packet of information that is especially interesting can go viral and instead of having traditional circuit breakers (space and time), it
can spread across the entire world in a few hours.

2020 had me read the Federalist Papers too, which lead me to more classical texts. I read Thucydides recently, and his insights on revolution were striking.
