Title: Victoria's Cottage Shed Roof
Post by: travcojim on January 06, 2008, 12:01:50 AM
Is it possible to build using the Victoria's Cottage plan and changing the main section to a shed rood and not having the loft option?  Looking for the best plan with 16' wide using a shed roof, thinking of building in a H pattern using the middle section as main living and the two side sections as sleeping and bathrooms.  Each section on the sides being 24 to 28 in length.  Would this plan be the best to use for this?

Yes, I think that would not be a complex modification. You could build one wall tall (as shown in the plans) and the other at 8'. I think a 2x12 rafter with R-30 would handle your roof loads and give you good insulation. You could open the tall wall with windows and get back the space of the stair.

It could be a nice design. Do check the rafter span locally with the inspector or someone who knows the snow loads and lumber grades available.
