Title: Site built Girder detail
Post by: John Raabe on September 12, 2006, 12:32:21 AM
In many of my plans I call out beams of solid lumber, glulams, or LVL lumber. Sometimes these beams are difficult to find or expensive.

If allowed by your inspector, you may be able to build up sturdy beams from standard lumber that will prove to be just as strong as a solid timber (though not as strong as a glulam or LVL of the same size!). Another advantage for remote sites is these beams can be built from light weight materials right at the construction site.

Click the link below and print or save the one page PDF file to your own computer.

Here is a link to a web page image (http://www.countryplans.com/builtupbeam.html) if that is easier to view, print or send a link.
