Title: John's 20 x 30 plans: Snow load?...
Post by: ajbremer on April 10, 2011, 08:52:54 AM
I am going to order John's 20x30 1-1/2 story (loft) plans but I wanted to know what the snow load is on those plans. Are they at least 20 psf? I would also like to know if the home can sustain a wind-load of 80 mph. I need to know these things because I have a Homeowners association with restrictions.

Many people in alaska have used those plans.  Do you need a building permit where you are building?  You might also need engineered plans with a stamp on them. If so they might not work.  I am building something very similar ( 20X36) and I had to have a 120# snow load.  Those trusses wouldn't work for that snow load.  I had to go to engineered scissor trusses.  Just got the estimate back last week, $2000 ouch.
