Today we passed 500 members and we're getting close to 5,000 posts. That's when the search feature starts to become really useful.

I talked to a friend a couple days ago, who I'm going to build a building for.  He was really impressed with the information on this site and gave someone else the URL for it. :)

Why won't the search function allow periods? I can't search "1.5 story" because of the decimal.
Jared

I'm not sure why you had a problem - I just tried it and got 15 posting replies.  Glenn
Title: Re: Wow!
Post by: Jared on January 09, 2006, 09:01:14 AM
Now it'll take the decimal but I get this:

The requested number of results is higher then the maximum number allowed by the system.
Maximun Search Results Allowed = 15

I'm getting irritated

I can fill that role if you need me too.  ;D  :D j/k  I'd rather not.  I like how everyone here gets along.  I've only found two boards where so many people get along so well.  This one and a motorcycle board.

The 12th of the month seems to be the day to be on country plans web site.

What is the difference between users, members, and guests?
Are users members that have not logged in?
Title: Re: Wow!
Post by: glenn-k on February 20, 2006, 11:30:58 AM
Users include members and guests.  Guests can include members who have not logged in or non-members.  High amounts of guests and members don't seem to occur often at the same time, so user high can occur at a different time.

"A"manda posted the 10,000th post & "Z"imZum was the 1000th member to sign up...  don't know if there is any meaning to that...   :-/   ;)

durned if I know!  It may be just because 1,000 follows 999 (and 10,000 follows 9,999).

Lots of web spiders here indexing us lately.  Probably going to get busier.
Title: Re: Wow!
Post by: jraabe on August 01, 2006, 03:25:10 PM
I'm not sure the spiders can actually read and link to the forum topics. I would love it if they could but I'm not sure YABB can do that. (It would also make searching easier!)

As a second topic... Let me know if you like (or at least can tolerate) the Google ads I added to the forum today. I notice that the ads will adjust to the topic of discussion. One question on water softeners had information in the ads on water softeners, supplies, etc. That might actually be helpful sometimes! (and it does help the site, of course).

Maybe Google can read the topics  :D - it may be smarter than I think. (I think, therefore I Google  :))
Title: Re: Wow!
Post by: Amanda_931 on August 01, 2006, 08:36:38 PM
Sometimes the google ads are really funny in context.

The treehugger bit about the bicycle powered washing machine kind of buffaloed them--so we got a link so we could learn about how Colorado has soooo much oil.

Not a really funny one, though.  Those come when we are asked to go to eBay for Kantian philosophy.

By the way, Google advertisers are kind of a weird bunch.  Caveat Emptor.  Buyer beware.

Amanda:

Doesn't that same advice hold for the Internet in general?

Probably including the advice we all spout off with here!  :D

As for the Google ads, most of us will soon ingore them... However, I found this neat little tutorial on pole buildings from a Google Ad link this evening. Quite valuable.

I'm not sure why the spiders are here - Inktomi - AOL MPC?  lots of them swoop in on us per IP addresses.

You do find us on Google searches quite often.

The Google adds are no problem for me ---they must be able to read it if they can apply relevant adds.

Not from a spider search but check us out - mention in LA times--

Jimmy... maybe you could host a showing of your house on the "Country Style" show that airs on HGTV. I watch that most mornings hoping for a great cottage/cabin showing to get ideas from and I'll be darned if they don't take me to a New York apartment trying to be what they call country or a backyard in Miami.  I've seen much more appealing interiors on this site!

Checking for spies and Black Choppers --- I run the IP addresses as a batch on a program called IPnetinfo available here--
http://www.nirsoft.net/

Highlight all the guests IP addresses on your main page with admin function on-- copy them including comma's -- just the whole block of numbers -- then paste them into IPnetinfo and submit -- it will run the addresses on all of them at once.  Usually groups of them - 6 to 10 appear at once and remain here for quite a while --- or maybe they are government spies------- ;D

Report data example tonight.

I agree SB. We had a great turnout for that one.

What kind of a contest could be interesting?

• A one story house under 600sf
• The best 1000sf family home
• The house that maximizes these three factors:
...inexpensive and quick to get up.
...expandable and adaptable to different uses
...same building system can be sized up and down

porch areas not counted

Glenn I am a woman with issues, I am opinionated and yet subject to change my mind at any moment. It's my curse.
Since I have been about 8 years old I have been drawing out floor plans. I do not know why I am slightly taken with space manipulation, balance and flow. Whenever we pack our truck to go off and play or to work, Hog always thinks we have way to much stuff and it wont fit. For what ever reason I can look at a load of all our stuff and mentally pack it. I can visually see that it will fit and it does.

Fred, fred, fred, what does his avatar look like?

Sorry Stink.   :-[

You mentioned that you have issues.  Don't we all -- as soon as you mentioned that design was like crack to you all I could think of was Fred. :(

For some reason while you look at the car and try to pack it mentally, I always look at things upside down and backwards.  Therefore your mention of crack became.....Fred. :-?

Hey Stink, I used to draw floor plans all the time while sitting in class - don't remember when I started, probably about the same age as you - what does that say about us?

I can also fit an exceptionally large amount in my cars - I've put large pieces of furniture in my SUV & gone to Costco & bought a cartful of stuff - no one ever believes I can fit it all in.  And my Dodge Stealth - just a hatchback - I've fit an incredible amount of stuff in that too -in fact, I can always pack the shopping cart much better than the people at the check stand can...  :-/  I'm soooo talented...  ::) ;D

And Fred...  that's another issue  :D

I think we were separated at birth Sassy. ;)
I can also go into rooms and tell you the size. When we bought the house we were in I got about 95% (room size) correct.and the other 5% out by a few inches. When hog fells trees if he can get it to fall right(in the direction we desire) I can tell you where the top will end up. This and cooking are the only two gifts I have, and I think the floor plans I do better then the cooking.

Glenn

I guess it will be OK once you are used to it. Got this today thought you might like it.

New Element Found

Heaviest Element Yet Known To Science

Seems that this new element exists practically everywhere, but because
it is inert, no one recognized it until the major research institution
was given a mega-dollar government grant to determine why everything
slowed down around governmental bodies.

The recent hurricanes and gasoline issues are proof of the existence of
a new chemical element.  A major research institution has recently
announced the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science.
The new element has been named 'Governmentium.'

Governmentium(Gv) has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy
neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass
of 312.  These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons,
which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called
peons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert.  However, it can be
detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into
contact.

A minute amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would
normally take less than a second, to take over four days to complete.
Governmentium has a normal half-life of 4 years; it does not decay, but
instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant
neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since
each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons forming
isodopes.  This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to
believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical
