Title: Brekke Leech lake MN 16x56 Cabin
Post by: mnwalleye on August 23, 2008, 08:12:24 PM
Hi All,

I have used this site many times over the past two years for ideas and inspiration.  I designed the cabin using the plans on this site, and used many of the great ideas to build this cabin on Leech Lake in northern MN.  There is no road access, so all materials were hauled over the ice last winter, and construction began this spring.  I got the foundation and main beams up in one long week in May, and then built the rest of the cabin over a three week period in July.

I ran out of gas at the end, and had help with the siding, and hired a guy to do the roofing, fascia, and soffit.

The cabin is 16x56, with a 16x16 screen porch on the front, 10 foot walls, two bedrooms in the back half, with a 16x16 loft over the two bedrooms for ME!

Like I tell most everyone when they ask me "how did you do it"?  I reply it takes two things:  1.  A fair amount of ignorance about how much working it is actually going to be.  and 2.  Iron fisted will once you get started.

Please enjoy the pictures, and thanks for all of the great ideas.

That's not running out of gas, that's just managing your resources.  I'm not up on my roof alone.  I hired a guy to help me with the roof.  But what I discovered was I hired him so I could help him.
