Saw this on the web today

An interesting thought.....

The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for the various groups of animals.

We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese.

However, less widely known is a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), an Exaltation of doves and, presumably because they look so wise, a Parliament of owls.

Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates. And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons?

Believe it or not ....... a Congress!

I guess that pretty much explains the things that come out of Washington!

Yes and we keep electing them, what should we be called?

I was told this by a good friend who has since left this walk of life:
Always stand in a bind. Even if you are taking a break, stand like you are fixing to hurry off to the next job. It always worked for him.

Hopefully --- Not late for dinner ;)

We have all voted for the lessor of the evils running and it leaves quite a bit to be desired.
I've been trying to get the ballots changed to include "None Of The Above"
If that position on the ballot won ---- the office would remain empty until the next election.

D.C. would become a ghost town and the budget would become balanced due to the lack of politicians blowing our money.

Until the next chapter of that pipe dream is written---- LATER.

So we are given a choice of individuals hand picked and groomed for the office, kept in office by the Supreme Court ruling on hanging chads or that no US citizen is allowed to ask if someone is actually eligible for office, if it doesn't go right the electoral college can change it, and on and on and on....

Yet some of us think that we can effect the outcome by spending twenty dollars worth of gas to drive to the polls.....that in reality is what this is about isn't it.... getting us to realize that our lives depend on the wars that bring us oil and it doesn't matter which person lives in the White House.

Those above them will direct world events and control which sovereign nation we attack next in the quest for riches, power and control of the world.

We are just breeding stock, providing gamers for flying drones, bombers and operating targeting computers while splattering humans like they are so many pixels on a screen [waiting]

Yeah, and I'm part of the problem, as I can't bring myself to change from 'independent'. Thus, the primaries come and go for me....not that the selection is any better there.
On this subject, I can't wrap my mind around the reason we still keep the Electoral College in this day of electronics.
Any good reason to keep it?

Dang, here I am, going OT on a 'thought for the day' thread......but maybe this is.....

Hard to get off topic in a thought for the day, Gary.....

Somewhere somebody is still thinking about this......

How about a quote to keep it on topic.

QuoteAll political systems in the world today
are the product of the struggle for power
               between instruments of governing. The
struggle may be peaceful or armed, such as
the conflict of classes, sects, tribes, parties or
individuals.  The result is always the victory
of an instrument of governing -- be it an
individual, group, party or class and the
defeat of the people, i.e. the defeat of genuine
               democracy.

Political struggle that results in the vic-
tory of a candidate with 51 per cent of the
votes leads to a dictatorial governing body
disguised as a false democracy, since 49 per
cent of the electorate is ruled by an instru-
ment of governing they did not vote for, but
had imposed upon them. This is dictatorship.
Besides, this political conflict may produce a
governing body that represents only a
minority, for when votes are distributed
among several candidates, one of them polls
more than any other candidate. But if the
votes polled by those who received less are
added up, they can constitute an over-
               whelming majority. However, the candidate
with fewer votes wins and his success is
regarded as legitimate and democratic! In
actual fact, dictatorship is established under
the cover of false democracy. This is the
reality of the political systems prevailing in
the world today. They are dictatorial systems
and it seems clear that they falsify genuine
               democracy.

A pretty good analogy, emailed from a former boss and mentor:

>>When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in
>>a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the coffee. Anyone
>>up for some coffee?!
>>
>>A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front
>>of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and
>>empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.
>>
>>He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
>>
>>The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the
>>jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas
>>between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was
>>full. They agreed it was.
>>
>>The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of
>>course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar
>>was full. The students responded with an emphatic "yes."
>>
>>The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and
>>poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty
>>space between the sand grains. The students laughed.
>>
>>"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to
>>recognize that this jar represents your life.
>>
>>The golf balls are the important things. Your family, your children, your
>>faith, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions. Things that
>>if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still
>>be full.
>>
>>The pebbles are the other things that matter. Your job, your house, and
>>your car. The sand is everything else. The small stuff."
>>
>>"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room
>>for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend
>>all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for
>>the things that are important to you.
>>
>>Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with
>>your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to
>>dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and
>>fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that
>>really matter. Set your priorities.. The rest is just sand."
>>
>>One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee
>>represented.
>>
>>The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that
>>no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of
>>cups of coffee with a friend."

An Obituary printed in the London Times.....

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense , who has been with us for many years.
No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.
Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

On February 23, 1954, Senator William Jenner warned in a speech:

"Outwardly we have a Constitutional government. We have operating within our government and political system, another body representing another form of government, a bureaucratic elite which believes our Constitution is outmoded."
