Title: SocketSystems LumberLink Kits
Post by: primitive_man on May 28, 2011, 08:40:03 AM
Anyone have any info on SocketSystems LumberLink Kits?

I'm specifically looking for dimensions/materials of the products for my proposed homebuild in the UK (designed in Sketchup):

Thanks to member: Ernest T. Bass for the idea and general outline.

Any assistance appreciated, since getting information from the people who run Socketsystems is nye on impossible and my structural engineer needs specifics.

Yours, Tom

 w* Tom,
Conceptually I like the idea. I've built one and was pretty underwhelmed. The connectors IMO are too short to avoid crushing the wood around the connector edges when under load. The manufacturer should be able to answer your engineer's questions directly, not necessarily through you. If this cannot be done to his satisfaction and if he cannot translate their design to your satisfaction. I would let your engineer design something appropriate for your situation. I would lean towards a heavy timber truss design rather than a moment resisting frame.
