Container House: Design Ideas

Sharing this video, as it is fairly dense with ideas and techniques applicable to cabin and small home design - even if you are not using a container.

Some interesting features:

-- Large usable front porch area. Open but covered.
-- Small mud room.
-- R45 roof insulation.
-- Membrane (flat) roof. Could just as well be a shed or gable roof.
-- R28 wall insulation using bio-insulation.
-- Lots of windows for natural light during the days.
-- Open floor plan.
-- Single, simple long-wall kitchen.
-- Accessible for handicapped or older person. One level, no ceiling fixtures.
-- Wood flooring as wall cover.
-- Point of demand hot water.
-- Mini-split heater. No ductwork.
-- Office/ daybed space.
-- Handicap accessible bathroom.
-- Oversize shower holds person and walker.
-- Bedroom - sliding glass door.
-- Adequate closet space.
-- Corner casting support (very simple foundation) if code allows.

Cost breakdown:
Land: 40K
Utilities: 25K
House: 60K
