Hello all!

Tired of lurking on the side line and figured I would actually sign in!  been a long time. So to jump back a few pages...
Are you at around $6k out of pocket to get to this point? (land aside).
I have to say that this post (love the rain screen) and Willy's for his WA cabin have my wheels turning.  I live in the 50th ranked state in the union for education (AZ) and found out baby #1 is on the way.  So that along with a few other things has me wondering if a slower pace would suit me.  I am on track for a million dollar funeral at this pace.

I will apologize now for the bolus of questions I am sure to ask a good many of you (Mountain Don your up next).

Yes right at $6k so far.  I expect that will go over $8k in the next month or so. w* soomb

Quick update.
We're looking at product called Dryvit http://www.dryvit.com/systems_list.asp?type=2&country_id=1
to use on the gable ends. I saw some samples in Tulsa today and it looks sharp.

I see Dryvit used directly over foam here in ca - about 1/8 inch of it over foam and that's the finish -- on all the big shopping mall building exterior moldings that are foam.

I just hauled a truckload of cedar from Tulsa to the cabin for siding. It's not bad looking stuff. Came from the same lot as the sample picture I posted earlier. Nice thing about it is it is 7/8" thick and not the normal 3/4 I've been seeing. Nice solid boards with most having 4 good sides. I'll let it dry for a couple of weeks before I start working on it.

The Dryvit is out since I was given enough treated cedar shakes today to do the gable ends. Can't resist free stuff.

Now if I can just get enough free time to work on the rest of the windows I'll be set. Too blasted hot again this week. I'm glad this is a long weekend.

glenn kangiser

That's great, Scott.

Hotter than heck here too -- I'm trying to get up the courage to go out in it and work.

Some new pics.

Got started on the siding.

Most of the windows are in. Some still need flashing.

Kitchen window

Veranda door is in. Needs flashed in. Round window is on order at Lowes. It's starting to come together slowly. I'm starting to feel pressure to get things done before winter.  :P Work this summer has been much bussier than I had expected. Atleast the place can be locked up now.

Your siding experiment is very appealing to the eye.  [cool]

I second that!  It is making me change my thoughts on siding.  Is it very labor intensive?

Thanks for the kind words. Very labor intensive. Cutting, sanding, pre drilling and staining all sides of the boards does take some time.

Scott,  one question,  and it's kinda late for me..  What did you use to seal the joints on your T&G plywood subfloor?  I need to do it to mine.

Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

I love the look of wood on a house! I wish I could have done it.

Homegrown Tomatoes

That is one sharp-looking house, Scott.  I love the look... very impressive.

Thanks for the kind coments everyone. I made a deal last night to buy an additional 4.6 acres that joins our current 1.5 acre lot on the north side. No idea what I'll do with it but having control of the ajoining property is nice.

Is there another cabin in the future Scott?

Couple of new pics.

Weather has been warm and dry for almost 2 weeks. I'll try to sand and stain the deck next week if it holds out. Forcast is for continued dry weather for another week.

Looks like you are moving right along, Scott.  1/2 yet on the siding?
