Hey all,
I've been lurking for awhile now, and after finding myself checking the site almost daily I figured it was time to register. I don't really have any experience in construction at all, though I did manage to build this 8x8 chicken coop:

I put 4x4 posts in concrete and built the frame and laid the flooring

Walls up and sheathing in place.....My wife took care of the painting for me...

Here it is all finished. Sorry there aren't more pics, but I didn't even know this site existed when I built it.
The way I figured out how to build it was by finding a website of another guy who had his building progress pic posted. I then copied what he did. I had a lot of fun building it, though the roof was definitely a challenge. I'm hoping to build a 16x20 shop for myself in the near future. One day I'd like to buy a piece of land (outside of CA) and build a cabin / small house to live mortgage free!
Very nice Grimjack
w* nice looking chicken coop!
w* Everyone has to start somewhere. Bigger and Better later.
Cool coop, Grimjack.
w* to the forum.
California is bad but not impossible. I don't care for the cities though.
Thanks for the kind words, Being my first construction project I was happy how it turned out.

High taxes and ridiculous gun laws will eventually drive me out. I live in a town of approximately 50,000 but work in the big city.
Speaking of high taxes, I called the planning department yesterday to find out how much a building permit would be for a 16x24 shop. The permits alone are gonna cost me $800.00!!!!!
Yup - I started a house project for a friend here in the mountains. With mandatory school tax payola and permit fees his permits came to $21,000.00

If WV was like CA my cabin would still be standing timber. ;)
