Title: Block reinforcement???
Post by: 2zwudz on November 29, 2008, 09:02:17 AM
When laying a block foundation using the durawall wire reinforcement in the mortarted joints should I extend the vertical rebar from footing to the top block and fill  or extend it about two feet above the footing just enough to tie the wall to the footing?

Thanks
Mark

Just tieing the footing to the wall is probably what is usually done, but this is one case when I think "more is better".  I choose to fill the block void after the wall is completed, and a full length rebar is inserted down thru the void, overlapping the rebar sticking up from the footing  ... and a sill hold-down threaded rod is added at the top, wired to the rebar.  This knits the frame construction all the way down to the footing.

I like JRR's method too for the bases and at least a column in the wall every so often.  Call me sentimental. ::)
