Title: victoria cottage
Post by: jroth on September 09, 2011, 06:29:48 PM
Can a second story be add above the downstairs bedroom that is tied into the rest of the upstairs. or would the ridge line need to be changed to allow headroom. The full bedroom upstairs floor plan shows optional access to loft but does not state headroom. thanks hopeful that is not to confusing or a repeat something that has been discussed already

As the lower floor bedroom is designed the beam at the ridge and the cathedral rafters could be replaced by an attic truss with access from the upper loft. However, the headroom would not be very wide - and probably not enough area for a bedroom.

If you raised the ridge beam of the addition and tied it into the main ridge so the two lines matched, you could have a 12' wide by 14' bedroom with a cathedral ceiling. This would require reworking the beam layout and the foundation footings and pads.
