I was able to pick up some 12"X36" 3/4" natural stained oak shelving . . . The shelving is stained and sealed.

I want to install the oak on the kitchen floor.  I am working on a concrete pad.  I know that there should be some sort of water-proofing or sealant between the floor and the pad.  Would 6-mil poly work?

I would prefer that the floor be "floating" on the pad with a herringbone pattern . . . I am wondering on how to attach each piece together.  I was thinking of maybe biscuits?  Or running a groove along the edge and splice the pieces together?

I have noticed that "regular" wood flooring is grooved on the floor side for expansion.  What should I do about possible "cupping" of the floor, if anything?
