Title: Vinyl patio door placement
Post by: busted knuckles on September 17, 2016, 01:09:14 AM
My house is 16 feet wide. There will be a ridge beam supported all the way down to the foundation. So I have about 7 1/2 feet on each side of the ridge beam support. I was planning on installing a 69 inch wide patio door between the post and the corner. I have been reading that this is not recommended. Too close to the corner. About 2 feet from the outside corner of the house.

Any way I can make it work? Let in diagonal bracing? Bad idea all the way around? It's already framed, but I can change it. The house is 24 x 16.

It sounds like you are worried about the wall bracing. As long as the rest of that wall is fully sheathed and blocked and is tied to that opening I suspect you are fine.

Yes, that was my concern. There is a 30" wide 48" tall window in the same wall. On the other side of the ridge beam support. I didn't think to mention that. Is that an issue?

I will be installing the 7/16 osb horizontally and blocking the joints.
