Title: Foggy, Discolored Polycarbonate Headlight Lenses?
Post by: MountainDon on September 11, 2012, 07:12:29 PM
My '06 Tacoma had cloudy looking and slightly yellowed head light lenses just like many vehicles do. I found some good aftermarket replacements that would have cost about $100 for the pair. Not as much as I thought they would be. But I decided to give one of those refinishing / restoring kits a try. I bought the 3M kit from Amazon for less than $12. The same kit at the local car parts stores were $22 to 23.  :o :o

It took a few hours, working from the 500 grit to the 800 and then wet sanding with the 3000 grit.  The final step was polishing with a sponge and rubbing compound. Everything done with a disc assembly driven by a drill motor. I am impressed. I didn't quite get a brand new look but it is so much of an improvement I am not complaining. A final coat of carnauba wax added some gleam. Well worth the effort especially with the money saving SAmazon purchase. (Yes one must pay shipping but with the Amazon prime deal last year the average shipping cost for our family comes to about a dollar per shipment.

Don,

Be sure to wax every month or two and they will stay  "Lookin Good"

I've found that the wax will keep you from having to sand and buff  every 3-4 mo.
