Title: Wanted! Buy! Sell! Barter! Give Away!
Post by: MountainDon on May 06, 2008, 05:15:56 PM
We had a suggestion for this from a member, so I asked John and he thought we should run this up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes. So here we are!

The logistics and costs of getting something from one place to another would have to be worked out between the interested parties. And of course, Country Plans does not offer a warranty, nor is there any implied warranty. Country Plans does not verify the condition, usability or suitability of any items offered for sale or trade. Country Plans does not collect fees nor act as a financial clearing house. It's a classic case of Caveat Emptor.

At present I can't think of anything around here I really want to sell... I am a bit of a packrat at times. OK, most all of the time. However, I have some "wants". I'll get to that in a moment.

I believe it would make this work smoother if we began each post with the nature of the deal; Wanted, Buy, Sell, Trade, Barter.... terms like that, and the general location, State or City (if large enough to be known to someone from across the country).

WANTED: NEW MEXICO:

I would like to find a couple of hand held VHF two way radios. Even one would be a start.

Marine band or 2 meter, 5 watt would be just fine.

There's something to start with.  :)

Hey Don,

You might try Sportsmans Guide or Cheaper than Dirt. I've got one radio my wife lost the other one off the atv. We later found it but it no longer works. I need two or three more my self.

Good Luck

Maybe it would help to pin this subject, so it's easy to find everyday. Just a thought.

John suggested we make it "sticky" if it's used....   ???   I'll make it sticky and we'll see how it goes. We can always "unstick" it.

i dunno if anyone would want any of my junk... mostly old car parts...we are removing some old cast iron 90 year old sinks from the house...they are in pretty good shape.. the type with the counter attached to the sink off to the side... and the counter has ribs in it so you can do the dishes in the sink and they will dry sitting on the counter? It that makes any sense to anyone out there...

And I have oodles of old wooden windows 90 years old with the cast iron counter weights...nice windows in their day.... good shape...32 x 60 most of them are I think

OK, I guess I'll take some time to tell you some of the stuff I have.  Mostly, books.  We've been donating them, but there are a number of do it yourself books and books on architecture I still need to clean out.  We have about 20,000 books, and it is foolish to move all of them.

I have been liberating a lot of my "treasure pile" at the scrap yard. 10,000#'s of iron last weekend, 420# of aluminum yesterday. Two old trucks are going today along with some more scrap metal. I am getting paid to clean up my yard. I am only hauling 12 miles so it is working pretty well. It is amazing how much stuff piled up over the years.
When I was dropping off the aluminum yesterday there was someone there selling a truckload of old bicycles for scrap metal. They were picked up along the illegal immigration route from Mexico. This economy will be seeing a lot of things recycled back through the process as we trim our sails.

The scrap metal buisness is going crazy. Paying $300 a car and $8 for white goods each.  Alot of farmers are cashing in on the old scrap trucks and cars on the farms that have been since growed over.

:)  I have a really cute house for sale in SE Wisconsin.  MLS# is  994493 and there are multiple pictures up on realtor.com  The basement is full and finished with a workshop room, kitchenette, family room and utility room.  All the appliances except a washing machine are included.  Some of the details (including the picture of the back yard) are not correct on the listing, but most of it is fairly accurate.   We'll entertain any offer.

I disposed of over $600 worth last weekend and with the two old trucks over $1600 this weekend. I still have more that I haven't hauled yet but it is going to go. I will keep some back for welding projects but not too much as I know how to accumulate pretty well. Of course the entire country side will be stripped bare when this window of opportunity slams shut. I suspect it will be good for the planet and it is giving my personal economy a little shot in the arm.

I have cleaned up a couple piles...and hauled a lot of cars recently... But I still have one place where there are numerous cars and a huge scrap pile...I have the driveway gated with a big steel gate.

Went there a week ago to do some work and the neighbor came to see me...The locals have been knocking on his door wanting to know who owned the scrap pile and the cars... Left their names numbers and cards...etc.

What made me laugh was most of them said "tell him I will clean it up for him free of charge."

gee that is awfully nice of them....When the price here is hovering around $15.00 per hundred pounds

In my area there are lots of people out scrapping. I haven't tried to solicit scrapping for other people just getting my own place cleaned up. It is easier for me than for lots of other people because I have the equipment. I use the forks on my bobcat and the front loader on the backhoe when necessary. I also have a tilt deck trailer so I could just roll the old trucks onto the trailer and haul them. I suspect that this window like most won't stay open for ever so the time is now to get rid of this stuff. And like I said it is good for the planet. Now if I could just find someone to buy plastic. I have lots of left over pipe. The scrap yard I go to has somone who comes around and picks up waste oil too so I can get rid of a couple of drums of oil I have sitting around. It is all good. Dealing in scrap metal is like dealing drugs. It is all strictly cash. There won't be a 1099 at the end of the year. How good is that.

desdawg too bad you are not closer. There are several buisnesses that use waste oil heating.  A friend of mine has a garage and uses it to heat with.  He has a never ending supply as long as buisness holds out.  If the gas is high people will not drive as much therefore the repair shops will just have to wait until they break down sometime later Huh.

If anyone is in the market for a car tote let me know.  A friend has one that he paid $1.400 for and used it one time to take a car to Fla and back.  It has ben kept in a barn for the last several years. He is asking $700.

I have a cardboard box I keep rescuing.  I rescued it from the barn when Dad passed away, and from the barn when Mom moved into town, and from the carport when the wind storm blew it away.

It is labeled 'Working Plans for Working Decoys".  The book inside is dated 1979, and it includes paper plans for carving, painting and weighting wooden duck decoys.

There are 6 patterns, Canada goose, mallard, scaup, pintail, canvas back, and wood duck decoys.

It would only require a large manila envelop to mail it, and I would be glad to do so to a good home.
It has a few miles on it, from the windstorm and years in the barn, but I don't think it was ever used.

considerations would be very interested in it.  My dad is a avid duck and goose hunter.  He has several wooden decoys that were made in Pascagoula,Ms in the 50's.  Hard to tell what they might be worth.  I made him a bunch of goose heads to fit clorox jugs to double as Canadian Snow Geese decoys.  I would love to get into making decoys if my life would ever slow down long enough.  I am sure it will but will I be worth a hoot by then.

anyone in the conroe/magnolia/tomball area of texas with some 60" tall hogwire you'd like to get off your
hands??

i want to run it between my fenceposts to grow vines on for some privacy

i also looked at chicken wire, its very light weight, and once the vines grow, it wouldn't matter, so i'd
consider that too

i know that doesn't come in 60" height, but maby i could make it work by doubling it to cover the height

would also consider any other ideas anyone might have for an effective fencing for vines

Title: Re: Wanted! Buy! Sell! Barter! Give Away!
Post by: considerations on January 20, 2009, 12:18:09 AM
I don't know what hog fence is but vines get really heavy.  We have something called cattle panels at the feed store.  They are fairly rigid, about 5' by 15' with 6" openings, I think.  It's more like rod than wire.  If I was going to grow vines, I'd be looking at them.

Mom had a clematis that climbed to the second story deck on the old farm, it spread along the railing and almost tore it off.  It took several years to get that big, but I had to give it a military hair cut to save the railing.  Then, of course, reinforce the railing.

Post by: tesa on January 20, 2009, 10:08:53 AM
hogwire has big openings, like 2"x4", we found it at HD for like 80 bucks for 100', not too bad, but i'm trying
to recycle, and ya never know what someone has just layin' around 'till ya ask

the vines i'm interested in would be annual type vines, not something that will pull the fence down, but i do
appreciate the advise

the location gets fantastic sun, for almost 8 full hours, so i'm thinking of cuke vines, maby squash, maby some
pole beans, and then maby some nice flowers, maby scarlet runner beans, stuff like that

TESA, heres an idea i used. old bed springs and matress. didn't want to haul to dump and pay the fee but not usuable for a bed anymore. so i burnt them. what was left is the springs for both, each solid pieces. hammered 2 steel posts beside them, secured with wire. have been using those for 2 years. cukes, beans, whatever. they were free and work well.

Think anyone on the forum would have an interest in a slightly used but pretty much pristine

Exeltech XP 250 watt 12 volt inverter and a

Since I upgraded to a bigger system I don't need them anymore.

Exeltech makes a quality product. I've used them.

It should be mentioned that they are pure sine wave inverters.

And the True Charger is a great charger from what I've read.

Cheap!!!!  Or less!!!!

Old RV generator.
4000 watt Dometic
approx 700 hours
??? or may it's about 500... I may have it confused with my other gen.
last run about 3-4 years ago
it made electricity as well as noise
it was replaced with quieter unit
electric start
complete except for exhaust pipe and muffler
I'd remove the hour meter panel with start, stop and run switch, from the RV if asked nicely
you would need to sort out three wires (they used to be marked)  ::)
I'll even toss in a good muffler
it's still noisy with it
it's very heavy; 2 man heavy
probably has a cast iron cylinder (and everything else cast iron too.)
it has been covered to keep rain off it.
cover off for pictures.
garden hose not included

as you can see it is not in the RV
I do not have it setup to start or run

You haul away so this might be best used by a NMexican or someone wanting a road trip.   dug?

23 x 12 x 16 H

If dug or anyone else wants it speak up.  I have had it on craigslist a few times and never had a nibble. Since listing it here I had a craigslist response.  :o   It's a low ball one, but still it's an offer. However, since I said it was available for the cost of the trouble of someone coming for it here before any advert response I'll give till Monday for a "for sure" from dug or anyone here to have it for free. Pickup need not be immediate, but a solid "yes" answer would be needed.

Title: Wanted: Gooseneck Sign Lights

WANTED: Gooseneck Sign Lights

I am looking for two matching Gooseneck Sign Lights.

I am located in Northern California, thought these seem to be fairly light so shipping might be an option.

I will be using these to light my horseshoe pits at the cabin so that we can actually use them after 5:00pm in the winter!

Here is a photo if you are unfamiliar:

And here is a photo of my father's setup (he is always trying to one up me):

If you have anything like this let me know, finish isn't really important to me as I will most likely powder coat them anyway, even without the gooseneck I may still be interested, as I could make that if I had to. The shade is the main thing.

Just incase anyone actually looks in here I found my lights, took me a year but I was able to track down some nice porcelain ones from the 40's.

The generator previously listed is gone.
The tube slide previously listed is gone (used that for the winter food storage)

Inherited approx. 200 boxes of fire starter sticks (14 per box).
This is what's left from a full semi load that a buddy and I dealt with for the scouts.
$1/box
$.50/box for all that's left
Shipping can be worked out, but prefer UPS
Heck, anything can be worked out
Talk to me

Hey, there's only about a hunert left!

One thing I gotta say here;
Why why oh why do people/companies spend money on advertizing when 'quanities are limited'?
The verbiage is always 'Hurry, these won't last!'
Is it because they think we are so mentally inept that we'll say to ourselves and spouses, 'Shazam! I better get down there now while they still have some!'

Anyhoot, somebody's gotta want/use these.
I don't, or rather haven't, but plan on using some at the cabin to start my slash burns in the snow.
...and I'll ship them free (in the lower 48) if you buy 'em all...or half.
Hate to just toss them all on the slash pile....then again...

Wife thinks I'm a firebug. Watches me like a hawk.

Question;
Anyone know how far an enclosed flaming wood box can fly when a quart of gasoline is poured on it?
Answer;
Approx five feet further than your water hose will reach.

Lookin' forward to a PM, Email, or reply......
I may not respond right away, however, there's only a few raffle tickets left for winning this gigantic bridge back east..........

Gary, I think I see your problem here.  It seems to be in your target audience.

We have mostly Fine, Proud American Rednecks and Hillbillies.

They seem to prefer another product such as my son here barbecuing at my place last weekend.....  [waiting]

I live in SC but will be driving to West Virginia this week and meet someone or drop it off.
