Sorry, that is a little sarcasm.  It just reminds me of all the times that people justify not building to standard design codes in high snow load areas, "because the roof pitch is steep, it will just slide right off."

I'm bookmarking this.

Look how thick the snow that is left at the peak on the other size is! 
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.
