I recently purchased home insurance for a post and pier home. I recevied a cancellation notice because of a "open foundation". I haven't enclosed it but will be shortly.

Any comments?

Thanks,

Frankie

Skirting is an important final part of the post and pier foundation. Critters can do a lot of damage to the underside of the house structure if allowed in. That is the reason the insurance company is interested.

We've all heard stories about the dog or raccoon family that moved in and pulled down all the floor insulation to build a nice warm nest.

There are lots of ways to enclose the perimeter. Screens and lattice work (set on the diagonal) looks pretty good and it relatively low cost.
