The creative craftsmanship just keeps on coming...

Very nice work. [cool]
None of us are as smart as all of us.

Finnished up most of the framing in the sleeping loft.

Platform where the bed will sit.

There will be a counter top in this nook opposite the bed with shelves on the right and a couple of drawers under that.
I insulated the short wall above the loft and closed it up with some left over osb. The area behind the wall will be for storage.

Installed the first window today in the bathroom. I may set the record for the worlds slowest build.  d*

No Scott I think I got you beat.  Maybe you will come in a close second. Looks like you got some rain lately.  It is so dry here that the chickens are laying powdered eggs.

Here's the round window my wife picked out. It's a special order through Lowe's for $350

Redoverfarm

Well I guess the hunt is off.  There is an auction on 9/13.  Probably have a half dozen now that you don't need one huh.

ScottA

No it's a done deal now she wants that window. Never take your wife to Lowe's with you.

But it's a very careful and well done build.  :)

It's going to be a house with character.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

They have that nice display for custom shapes. We saw it too.

Scott, how does she expect you to see the backhoe through that?

I think thats why she picked it Glenn. So she wouldn't see it. It is a very nice window though. They had one on display at Lowe's. Tripple glass design. The pattern is sandwiched between 2 other pieces of glass.

glenn kangiser

Should be easier to clean that way.

I like it  :)  Your wife has good taste  8)  we do have some extra portholes windows (off a Navy ship that you can do Morse code with) maybe you could offer her one of those instead?  We have one in our bedroom door...

I don't know sassy  I'll have to see.

Something else shes picked out. I'll tell more about where this is going later on.

Your house has an oriental flare to it...  I've always liked to mix in some oriental decor with other stuff.  My parents had a lot of stuff from Okinawa, Japan, Guam & Taiwan when they or my dad was stationed or had TDY there.  I have an ornately carved round coffee table with 4 little stools that has dragons carved on the wood.  The top has jade & other semi precious stone placed in the carvings of a village, mountains & lake - covered by glass to protect it) I think my dad got that from Guam years ago - very beautiful.

South door. This was fun to install.  d*

Rainscreen siding sample. Stained Western Cedar. Opinions?

TheWire

Looks neat, but will bugs and bees and hornets get into those cracks?

glenn kangiser

French doors are fun.

Siding looks good - are you going to do anything about the spaces between or is that part of the plan?

I'm sure some bugs will go behind the boards but I don't think it will be a big deal. Not really enough room in there for hornets to nest. and they can't get inside the house. We'll see.  d*

Yes the spaces are planned. I know it looks odd but this is an experiment.

Redoverfarm

Scott bee's can get into tiny spaces especially mud doppers.  I think I would buy some plastic screen stretched over the strip first.

MountainDon

Mud daubers are a pain. They love to build in the vents of RV furnaces for some reason.

ScottA

I'm sure you guys are right about the mud daubers. They have gotten in my mower exhaust and in a compressor motor. In the siding though I can't see them causing any real serious problems. I did think about putting screen but decided it wasn't really needed since the critters can't actually enter the house that way. We've lived with insane insect populations for many years around here. No siding can keep them completly out. Same with the water which is why I decided to try this unusual method. That and I'm hard headed.  d*

I think it looks nice, too - if you have spiders, they'll probably like it a lot...  we have problems with the mud daubers in the eves - more so in the valley, although I see them around here whenever the ground gets wet...
