This is the inside unit.
Our first month in service shows a 40% reduction in electrical usage compared to a year ago. That doesn't count the wood we were burning last year (over three cords).

So far it heats the 1400sf of our Solar Saltbox (http://countryplans.com/sb-tour.html) style home with painless remote control ease during our mild winters. The installer calculations say it is good down to 17ยบ F and we would then have to use the wood stove. It is much quieter than I expected it to be. The inside unit whispers (maybe 1/4 the noise of an electric fan type space heater). The outside unit makes a bit more noise (it has a larger fan).
Our installed cost for the heat pump and the electrical work was $4,893 and we will get a $1,200 rebate from the electrical utility (it cuts demand for peak power usage - their big expense).
It can be reversed in the summer to provide cooling.

Aren't they amazing when it comes to operating noise?
Cooling in the summer is very good too. [cool]
