Someday soon, Fifi, the only flying B-29 in the world will have a partner.

It would be the ultimate gas to see them flying together!!

I got to see Hoover do his routine at Oshkosh a few years back -- he is an amazing pilot

I first saw Bob Hoover circa 1970 at Rockford,Il when the EAA show was still held there....seen him many times since.

Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't try this once..........

 Testing Jet Engines

First, a flood of water; then an ice ball cannon; followed up by a dead chicken insertion.

Didn't see anything reguarding the rotor blade failure.

And why is GE testing PW engines?

Or did I miss something............

Back in the seventies and eighties I read everything I could about that aircraft.

I was working for the railroad.  I can not remember the year but the pacific northwest was being used for a massive air force war games for the week.  We seen so many airplanes, some Air Force, some Navy and even as I heard even the Marines even a couple foreign countries it was reported.  One night on a Nampa yard job we were either in at 'beans' or coffee or something.  But we were in the shanty where our lockers and lunch table was.  We got popped that night with the strangest sonic boom and roar afterword.  The door to the shany blew open several inches - dust fell from the ceiling and furnace air return.  We ran outside thinking a tank car had blown up or something.  Then when I started collecting my thoughts I guessed we had gotten an SR 71 fly over. I told everyone that had to been an SR-71.  Few people understood what I said most did not know or care SR-71 from a P-51.

The Air Force released a statement to the media - a SR-71 had refueled actually over the desert.  Disengaged the tanker went back to mach flight.  It was not intended to occur over a populated area but did.  It went on to explain when they disengaged the tanker and go to afterburners it is designed to even dump more fuel into the afterburners clearing out the piping and extra fuel in the system waste gating it out past the afterburner.  This also was part of the boom that we heard and felt.  But I do not know that to be true or just more armed forces - media BS.  All I know is the little experience just that told me that SR-71 was all the plane I heard and read it was.

originally code named the "Ox Cart"

the SR71 was designed in the late 50's. it was financed off budget by the CIA less than a decade after the CIA was formed

When the Airforce found out they had to have it too

I once saw one during the ramp up to the Iraq invasion parked among the Minnesota Air National Guard planes at MSP  --Didn't have my camera

A friend from NM was flying IFR near Albuquerque when he heard

"Center, Military Flight 479 Request clearance to flight level 700"

479, Clear to level 700, there is no other traffic above FL350"

"Thank you center, 479 descending to level 700"

"479 say aircraft type"

" unable, 479"
