Title: Question about plumbing, heating & furnace install
Post by: jballone on July 08, 2007, 11:41:38 PM
Hello Everyone,

I've been lurking on this site for about a year off and on and have to say I find it very informative and inspiring!

I do have a question though:
How do you install heating ductwork and plumbing if building on a slab?  Also, how/where do you install a furnace?

Thanks,
Joe

In slab homes, plumbing is usually run through the slab.

Heating can be accomplished in a variety of ways. If you want to use a "conventional" forced air furnace for heat and a/c, it's placed either in a closet on the main floor or in the attic, and ductwork can be run through the attic or it can be run through the slab. Another good option in a slab home is using radiant heat in the floors, this is probably the cheapest route and very easy to DIY, but you'll need to find another way to do the a/c, if you want it.

Welcome to the forum, both. :)

The slab home I used to have had the ducts through the attic and furnace in the center in a small closet.
